Jupiter Hammerheads News Release
The Jupiter Hammerheads (4-3) complete the comeback and win in walk-off fashion over the St. Lucie Mets (2-5) at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Friday night. After being down 4-0 going into the bottom of the seventh, Jupiter rallied for their third win of the series.
The Mets dominated the early stages of the game. St. Lucie got on the scoreboard first with a pair of runs in the second inning and added another run in the third.
Mets starter Saul Garcia held the Hammerheads hitless across his two innings of work. Reliever Layonel Ovalles kept the momentum going with three strong innings against Jupiter. The Hammerheads got their first hit of the evening in the bottom of the fourth on a Mark Coley II single.
The seventh inning, both teams crossed the plate. The Mets tacked on another run to make it a 4-0 ballgame before the Hammerheads scored twice in the bottom half of the frame. Yeral Martinez started things off with a lead-off double and later scored courtesy of a Jake DeLeo RBI single. Later in the inning, DeLeo would score after a sharp line drive single from Jordan McCants.
Jupiter's bats stayed hot in the eighth. With runners on first and second, Johnny Olmstead tied up the game with a two-run double to center field.
Jupiter reliever Josh Ekness pitched a perfect ninth inning with three strikeouts to set-up the offense for a walk-off winner. Sam Praytor got on base with a single before Ryan Ignoffo would pinch run. A couple batters later, Coley II ended the night with his fourth triple of the season to score Ignoffo.
On the mound, Thomas White got the start for the Hammerheads. The Marlins No. 2 overall prospect pitched three innings, allowing three runs with four strikeouts.
The Hammerheads and Mets will continue the series on Saturday night. Be sure to come to the stadium for a piece of history. The first 500 fans on Saturday will receive a 2023 Jupiter Hammerheads replica ring presented by Fairfield Inn. Tickets are available.
