Clearwater Threshers News Release
CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Threshers pitching staff racked up a season-high 18 strikeouts on Thursday night, but Clearwater dropped to 0-4 in extras with a 5-3, 10 innings loss to the Daytona Tortugas at Spectrum Field.
Austin Listi stayed hot at the plate with a 2-for-5 night, extending his on-base streak to 15 consecutive games.
The Threshers (13-21) struck first in the opening inning, after Adam Haseley worked a one-out walk against Scott Moss and swiped second. Listi brought him home, knocking a double off the wall in left field to give Clearwater a 1-0 lead.
Clearwater tacked on two more in the third. Haseley and Listi connected from consecutive one-out singles, and Darick Hall's high chopper to the right side scored Haseley on the groundout to make it 2-0. Mickey Moniak followed with a single to right to score Listi and increase the lead to three.
Mauricio Llovera dominated through the front four, before Ibandel Isabel led off the fifth with an opposite-field homer on the first pitch of the inning.
Bruce Yari followed with a single, and Brantley Bell doubled to left to put the tying run at second. Llovera struck out Carlos Rivero, but a Jose Siri infield hit loaded the bases, and TJ Friedl worked a walk to push across a run.
Llovera came back and struck out Tyler Stephenson for his eighth strikeout, but a walk to Taylor Trammell plated the tying run.
Jakob Hernandez entered with the bases full, and quickly got Mitch Nay to pop out to short to end the inning.
Hernandez dealt a season-high 3.1 scoreless innings of relief, racking up five strikeouts. The lefty has now struck out 29 batters in 19 innings this year, and possesses the highest K/9 ratio amongst all relievers in the FSL.
The game remained knotted up at three until the 10th.
With one out, TJ Friedl knocked in free runner Carlos Rivero with a single to center off Aaron Brown (1-2), and advanced to second on the throw home. He would later score on a bounding ball back of first that resulted in an infield single for Trammell, making it 5-3.
The Threshers host the Tortugas for game two on 70's Night, when Sixto Sanchez takes the hill against Ryan Olson. First pitch is set for 6:15 p.m., and the game will be broadcast live on threshersbaseball.com starting at 6 p.m.
