Jupiter Hammerheads News Release

Coming off back-to-back extra-inning games, the Hammerheads opened a three game series with the Charlotte Stone Crabs Thursday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.

Robert Dugger took the hill for his sixth start of the season.

The Stone Crabs struck first with an RBI single in the top half of the 2nd inning.

The Hammerheads answered in their half of the inning as newly acquired Anfernee Seymour hit a solo home run to right field in his first at-bat to tie things up at 1-1.

Charlotte added two more runs, one in the 5th on a sacrifice fly and another in the 6th on a wild pitch, to take a 3-1 lead.

Dugger would leave the game after 6 2/3 innings, giving up eight hits and one earned run with four strikeouts.

In the bottom of the 8th, Brian Miller singled to score Seymour and cut the lead to 3-2.

In the 9th, the Stone Crabs added another run to go ahead 4-2, but Jupiter had another answer in their back pocket.

John Silviano led off the bottom half of the 9th with a single, followed by an Eric Guttierrez double to put runners on second and third with zero outs.

Rodrigo Ayarza hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Silviano to pull within one run, 4-3. Chris Hoo then turned on a pitch, ripping a double down the left field line to score Gutierrez and tie the game at 4-4.

The Hammerheads were unable to plate another run, setting up the third consecutive extra inning contest for the club.

Trouble struck in the 10th for the Hammerheads. A bases loaded triple scored three runs followed by an RBI single that gave Charlotte a commanding 8-4 lead.

Jupiter had life with two runners on and one out in the bottom half of the 10th, but failed to manufacture any runs, falling to the Stone Crabs 8-4.

The Hammerheads are back in action Friday for game two vs. Charlotte.

First pitch set for 6:30pm.
