Clearwater Threshers News Release
CLEARWATER - The Clearwater Threshers fell 11-3 to the Dunedin Blue Jays in the series finale on Saturday night at Brighthouse Field.
Pete Lavin put in another solid effort at the plate, going 4-for-5 including his team-leading fifth homerun of the season. He has totaled seven hits over his past two games.
The Blue Jays (26-9) took the series three games to one over the Threshers (8-25) and were led offensively by the bottom four in the batting order. Derrick Chung, Emilio Guerrero, Gustavo Pierre, and Jorge Flores combined to go 7-for-17 with eight runs scored and five driven in.
Ethan Stewart (2-3) was charged with the loss after lasting five innings and allowing eight runs on eight hits while walking four and striking out two.
Justin Jackson (3-0) picked up the win out of the pen for Dunedin, tossing a scoreless 1.2 innings in relief. Daniel Norris started and pitched the first 4.2 innings, surrendering just one run on four hits while striking out six.
Gabriel Lino hit his second homerun for the Threshers in the eighth inning. He finished the game 1-for-4. Lavin capped his four-hit performance with a solo shot out to left in the ninth inning.
Dunedin got the scoring started in the second after a single and a double by Kevin Patterson and Derrick Chung. Patterson scored on the extra-base hit and Chung later crossed the plate on a wild pitch.
The Blue Jays never looked back after that. A two-run homer by Dalton Pompey in the fifth added a couple of insurance runs. Dunedin scored four more in the sixth, twice in the eighth and one in the ninth.
The Threshers have an off day Sunday and return to action Monday night for their first home series against a team from the South division. The Jupiter Hammerheads pay a visit to Bright House field with game one on Monday at 7:00 p.m. Colin Kleven will get the call for Clearwater. Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 on threshersbaseball.com.
