
Hammerheads Top Miracle, 3-1, in Series Finale

FORT MYERS, Fla. (May 10, 2014) - The Jupiter Hammerheads salvaged a series split with a 3-1 win over the Fort Myers Miracle on Saturday night at Hammond Stadium.
The Miracle began the scoring with a run in the first inning off Jupiter starter Austin Brice. Aderling Mejia and Travis Harrison began the inning with back-to-back singles putting runners on the corners. Jorge Polanco then hit a grounder to third. Colin Moran made a diving stop and threw out Polanco, but Mejia scored from third, 1-0.
Jupiter tied the game in the fourth inning. With one out, Austin Barnes doubled into left field. Coin Moran followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Jesus Solorzano then lifted a broken bat single into center field to bring in a run and tie the game, 1-1.
The Hammerheads took a 3-1 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh. With one out, Terrence Dayleg singled up the middle off Miracle starter Jason Wheeler. Then, Matt Juengel cranked a 1-1 pitch off the wall in right center for a triple to bring home Dayleg. The next hitter, Viosergy Rosa, grounded out to first to score Juengel and spot the Hammerheads a 3-1 lead.
After six innings allowing just one run on five hits with one walk and two strikeouts, Brice (3-3) exited the game. Jheyson Manzueta pitched a scoreless seventh in relief and Joseph O'Gara recorded the final six outs for his sixth save of the season.
Wheeler (2-3) was the losing pitcher despite giving the Miracle a quality start. Wheeler went 6.2 innings with three runs allowed on 10 hits, two walks and three strikeouts.
The Miracle are off on Sunday, but travel to Viera, Fla. to play the Brevard County Manatees in a four-game series beginning on Monday at 6:35 p.m. Fans can listen to all the action on www.miraclebaseball.com with the "Voice of the Miracle" Brice Zimmerman.
