CLEARWATER -- Jon Prosinski turned in his best outing of the season for the Clearwater Threshers on Saturday night, but Clearwater came up short in a 2-1 loss to the Dunedin Blue Jays at Bright House Field.

Prosinski battled early command issues to turn in a season-high seven innings, holding the leagues's second-leading offense to just one run on six hits. He permitted two walks - both in the first inning - and struck out four.

After issuing free passes to two of the first three batters he faced, Prosinski settled in to retire the next ten Blue Jays batters before Emilio Guerrero picked up Dunedin's first hit of the ballgame with two down in the fourth.

The Threshers (5-17) grabbed the game's first lead in the bottom half against D'Jays' starter Taylor Cole.

Pete Lavin drove a double to right field with one out, and Harold Martinez followed with a hard grounder past Guerrero at shortstop to put men at the corners. One out later, Willie Carmona came through with a high chopper to the first base side for an infield single, bringing home Lavin to make it 1-0 Clearwater.

The Blue Jays (17-5) tied it with their lone run off Prosinski in the fifth. With a runner at third and two outs, Dwight Smith Jr. served a single to centerfield to knot the game up at one.

It remained tied until the eighth inning.

Smith greeted reliever Kevin Walter (0-1) with a double to left-centerfield. With the wheel play on, Dalton Pompey swung away and sent a grounder through the wide-open left side to score Smith with the go-ahead run.

Walter settled down to retire the final six hitters of the ballgame, but was charged with his first loss of the season.

Justin Jackson (2-0) earned the win in relief for Dunedin, setting down the side in order with a pair of flyouts and a strikeout in the seventh. Arik Sikula earned his league-leading seventh save.

The Threshers will look to earn a split as the four-game series wraps up in Dunedin on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m., with coverage beginning at 12:45 p.m. on threshersbaseball.com.

Clearwater returns home for a three-game series against Brevard County on Monday at 7 p.m., kicking off with Feeding Frenzy night. A $12 ticket gives fans access to an all-you-can-eat menu from 6-9 p.m.
