August 21, 2016 - Pioneer League (PL)
Great Falls Voyagers News Release
Great Falls, MT-Four nights after the Voyagers pitching staff took a no-hitter into the seventh inning at Ogden, it fully completed the feat in a 2-0 home victory over Helena Saturday night at Centene Stadium.
Yosmer Solorzano, Adam Panayotovich, and Jaider Rocha combined on the no-hitter, the first in the Pioneer League since Great Falls did it back in 2011. Since 1964, Great Falls has recorded four no-hit games. The Voyagers (11-8, 32-25) moved into a first-place tie with Billings in the North Division second half as the Mustangs fell at Missoula Saturday. Great Falls improved to 18-10 at home, and 6-4 in the season series with Helena. The Brewers (7-11, 22-34) have lost four in a row.
The Voyagers only runs came across in the first and fifth innings respectively. In the bottom of the first, Joel Booker led off with a walk and later stole second. He scored on a fielder's choice ground ball to the shortstop off the bat of Aaron Schnurbusch. Leading off the fifth, Corey Zangari poked a solo home run deep to right field for his seventh of the season. Zangari has now hit 15 homers between Great Falls and Kannapolis in 2016.
For Great Falls, Yosmer Solorzano lasted seven innings and posted his league-leading sixth win. Solorzano (6-3) struck out a season-high tying eight with one walk and a hit-by-pitch. Adam Panayotovich worked one inning and registered two strikeouts with a walk. Jaider Rocha earned his fifth save of the season as he faced the minimum in the ninth. Rocha walked one but induced a 1-6-3 double play. Cameron Roegner suffered the loss for Helena. Roegner pitched three innings and allowed one earned run on just two hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
At the plate, Great Falls scattered five hits. Helena only managed to place two base runners as far as second the entire night. The Voyagers committed two errors in the contest.
Great Falls starts a two-game road series at Helena Sunday afternoon. First pitch at Kindrick Legion Field is scheduled for 1:05. The Voyagers next two-game home stand against the Brewers starts Tuesday night. For ticketing and promotional information, visit www.gfvoyagers.com or call 406-452-5311.
