Three Things to Know: Nashville SC vs. Ottawa Fury FC

June 21, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Nashville SC News Release

NASHVILLE - Back at the friendly confines of First Tennessee Park on Saturday night, Nashville SC will take the pitch in front of the home fans for the first time in over a month in USL Championship play. When Nashville last walked off the field at FTP on May 18, it had just drawn Charlotte Independence 1-1 in a disappointing draw. Now, they return after a four-match road swing having taken 10 of a possible 12 points away from home and have moved into third place in the Eastern Conference.

Nashville SC will have to prove itself again on Saturday when it takes on Ottawa Fury FC who sit in 7th place in the East, just five points behind Nashville. Here are three things to know going into the match on Saturday night.

1. Both Teams are going Streaking

Nashville SC and Ottawa Fury FC are two of the hottest teams in the league, with Nashville riding a six-match unbeaten streak in USL play and Ottawa riding an eight-match run. Nashville's last loss in league play was May 8, while Ottawa hasn't fallen since April 20. If FiveThirtyEight's predictive percentages are to be believed, Nashville stands a 59% chance of ending Ottawa's run while the Fury have just a 15% chance of winning. Both streaks could continue with a draw, which has a 26% chance of happening.

2. A Look Back at the Previous Meeting

Ottawa Fury FC is the first opponent that Nashville SC will have played twice this season, and Nashville had one of its best results of the season up in Ottawa on April 6. Nashville jumped out to a 1-0 lead midway through the first half when Daniel Ríos scored his first of the match. NSC piled on in the second half with a goal from Tucker Hume and a second by Ríos. The three goals Nashville scored are the most that Fury have given up in a single match all season.

3. First Place On the Line

By the end of Saturday night, Nashville SC could be in first place in the Eastern Conference, a position it has never before occupied. With a win, and losses or draws from the Tampa Bay Rowdies and New York Red Bulls II, Nashville would vault both teams and move into the top spot. While Nashville has played more games than most teams below it in the standings, points earned are more valuable than possible points in hand. A win would also mark the first-ever three-match winning streak for Nashville SC in USL Championship play.

Tickets to the match are still available here for as low as $15, or $11 with a Flex Plan. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT.
