Real Monarchs SLC Continues Four-Corners Cup against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC

HERRIMAN, Utah - Real Monarchs SLC (4-6-3, 15 points, 16 West) starts its two-game road stretch as it visits Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Saturday, June 22. Kickoff from Weidner Field is set for 7:00 p.m. MT.

The Monarchs broke a winless skid when it hosted Rio Grande Valley FC on June 8, securing the full three points at Zions Bank Stadium with a 5-3 scoreline. The Utah side dominated the first half, keeping RGV FC without a shot on goal while picking up three goals through FW Douglas Martinez, and MFs Josh Heard, and Maikel Chang to go into the break 3-0. Rio Grande Valley FC began to turn momentum back in its favor as the two teams traded goals throughout the second half. Martinez notched his brace while DF Noah Powder expertly placed a freekick in between the three goals the visitors found to end the game.

Riding momentum from its thrilling victory over Rio Grande Valley FC, the Monarchs look secure its first road victory of the 2019 season on Saturday. Real Monarchs now face one of its Four-Corners Cup rivals as it visits Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. The two sides faced off twice last season which saw the Monarchs fall in each meeting. Now, Real Monarchs go to Weidner Field looking for redemption in the form of its first road win this season.
