Sacramento Republic FC News Release
Limited chances early on, youngster stepping up on in the spotlight and a second half intensity from SRFC
Only three days after hosting Oakland Roots SC, Mark Briggs' men welcomed Orange County SC to Heart Health Park for the third and final match of the club's three-game homestand.
The visitors claimed all three points on Saturday night following the 3-1 result as Tucker Bone netted his team-best third goal this season.
With a quick turnaround ahead, the squad's focus is already on the next opposition but there were still some positive talking points from the game against OCSC.
First Half Chances Were Few and Far Between
Sacramento Republic FC and Orange County SC combined for just four shots in the opening 45 minutes of Saturday's match. Both of SRFC's first-half shots came from close range, as Pete Pennanen took a ball down the left side and had his shot blocked. Cam Iwasa's header from point blank in the 35th minute sailed wide to the left.
Second Half Intensity
Bone's strike was the catalyst for an uptick in play on SRFC's part on both ends of the pitch. Dumas looked to make it a brace for OCSC off the fast break, but inaugural SRFC Academy product Nabi Kibunguchy came up with the clutch tackle down the left side in the 69th minute. Meanwhile, Republic was able to muster three shots in a two-minute span on the other end.
Compared to just two shots in the opening 45 minutes, the Indomitable Club threw eight shots at Orange County SC in the second half.
Young Talent Steps Up
Nabi Kibunguchy and SRFC Academy product Rafa Jauregui entered as substitutes in the second half, helping turn up the intensity on both ends of the pitch. Hayden Sargis made his second appearance of the season as a member of the Starting XI, completing an impressive 94.7 percent of his 19 passes in the opening 20 minutes. Sargis led SRFC with 65 successful passes on the night and played the ball a team-high 89 times.
Next up for the boys in Old Glory Red is a midweek trip to Utah to take on Real Monarchs this Wednesday night.
