Sacramento Mountain Lions News Release
Former Sacramento Mountain Lions, receiver ROD WINDSOR and defensive end/linebacker CURTIS YOUNG, are currently on practice squads in the NFL.
This is the route that former Mountain Lions safety ANDREW SENDEJO took and he is now on the active roster for the Dallas Cowboys. Sendejo was signed to the Dallas practice squad on Nov. 24 and was signed to the active roster five days later. He will suit up against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, December 5.
Windsor signed with the Cleveland Browns on Tuesday, November 30, while Young signed with the Green Bay Packers on Wednesday, December 1.
Windsor played all season for the Mountain Lions, who finished the 2010 campaign with a record of 4-4. He led the team with three touchdown receptions, was second in catches (25) and second in receiving yards (379).
Windsor, 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, also played in the Arena Football League in 2010 (193 catches, 2,372 yards, 47 touchdowns for the Arizona Rattlers). He caught 81 passes for 1,118 yards and six touchdowns as a senior at Western New Mexico State after serving as the team's quarterback as a junior (led team in passing and rushing yards).
Young was with the Mountain Lions for one game, the season opener at Hartford on Sept. 18. Young, 6-foot-1 and 270 pounds, is a rookie from the University of Cincinnati.
Sendejo, 6-foot-1 and 225 pounds, is a Texas native. He is a rookie from Rice University and had tryouts with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New Orleans Saints prior to joining the Mountain Lions this year.
"It's a crash course to learn special teams and defense and things like that," said Sendejo. "There is a lot on my plate to learn right now. You get activated and you want to show your teammates that the staff made a good decision to activate me . . . Special teams is where I'm going to be mainly (right away)."
Sendejo was a big-time playmaker for the Mountain Lions this Fall, tying for second in the UFL with 48 total tackles. He is looking forward to Sunday.
"All of it is going to be a new experience," he said. "Being dressed down on the sidelines and getting in, if it happens, you will always look back and remember it . . . Everyone from back home is elated for me. Not only getting to the NFL but doing it with the Cowboys."
He finished his Rice career second on the all-time tackles list with 318.
The UFL season came to a close on November 27 as the Las Vegas Locos beat the Florida Tuskers 23-20 to win the championship in Omaha, Nebraska.
