New Haven County Cutters News Release
With the New Haven County Cutters' season only two short weeks away, the team's roster, which has undergone major changes since the end of last season, is ready to embark on a season long journey in the Can-Am League.
Twenty-six players are expected when training opens at 10 a.m. Monday. This includes three non-roster invitees. The Cutters will be without rookie outfielder Jack Lipari, who suffered a broken fibula while taking live batting practice last week and will be out for some time.
The roster:
Pitchers: (13) Jordy Alexander, Ryan Bonesio, Courtney Hall, Tim Keinath, Sean Kramer, John Magaletti, Nick Maness, Shane Moran, Nick Rowland, Jarrett Stawarz, Josh Tomsu, Rolando Valles, Andy Weimer
Catchers: (3) Nick Hiter, Andy Larned, Eddie Wilson
Infielders: (6) Jeff Brooks, *Hector Cruz, Jr., Orlando Encarnacion (pitched last season), Marshall Smith, Keith Stegbauer, Chas Terni
Outfielders: (5) Keto Anderson, *Antaun Barnett, Darren Ciraco, Jack Lipari, *Sean Robinson
Players in bold were with the Cutters in 2004. Asterisks (*) indicate non-roster inviteees.
New Haven County invited Cruz and Barnett to camp after their annual tryout camp on Saturday, which drew 27 players. Cruz is a former 11th round draft choice of the Arizona Diamondbacks, who plays both second base and shortstop. He is the son of former major leaguer Hector Cruz, Sr., and the first cousin of Arizona outfielder Jose Cruz, Jr. Barnett finished his collegiate career at Fairfield University last spring. He plays both first base and the outfield.
The Cutters also issued an invitation to Robinson, a 25-year-old outfielder from Washington, DC, who has played primarily in the Dominican Republic.
The Cutters' home opener is Memorial Day, May 30, at 6:05 against the Grays, the newly formed Can-Am League traveling team. Season, group and individual game tickets are available at Yale Field or by calling 203 777-5636. Information and tickets can obtained at www.CuttersBaseball.com.
