
Three More 2016 Draft Picks Join Salem-Keizer

KEIZER, Oregon - The San Francisco Giants transferred three additional players to Short Season-A Salem-Keizer on Wednesday. Pitchers Chris Falwell and Sidney Duprey and outfielder Jacob Heyward were selected in the 2016 MLB Draft and are being transferred from the AZL Giants.Chris Falwell, a 6-7, 210-pound left-handed pitcher, was drafted in the 16th round (485 overall) out of Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
Out of high school, Falwell enrolled at Cisco Junior College for two years prior to spending one year at Texas A&M Corpus Christi. For the Islanders, Falwell appeared in 17 games (starting 12) and posted a record of 3-5. During his junior campaign, Falwell threw 86.2 innings, striking out 88 and posting an ERA of 2.91 while walking just 29.
For the AZL Giants, Falwell pitched 33.0 innings with an ERA of 2.73 while striking out 20 and holding opposing batters to an average of .256.
Sidney Duprey was drafted in the 35th round of this year's draft from Kaskaskia College in Arcola, Illinois. The 19-year old junior college product pitched in 13 games in his 2015 college season, making 12 starts and achieving an 8-2 record. He tossed 81.2 innings while logging a 1.54 earned run average and striking out 88 batters. He struck out eight or more batters in seven of his starts and recorded a career-high 14 on April 7 against Southeastern Illinois.
The left-hander has pitched for the AZL Giants in 2016, mainly out of the bullpen, but has maintained a stellar 1.61 ERA and a 2-2 record over eight appearances and one start. Throughout his 22.1 innings pitched, Duprey has struck out 12 and walked 10.
Jacob Heyward, a 6-3, 210-pound outfielder, was drafted out of Miami University in the 18th round (545th overall).
Brother of Cubs' star Jason Heyward, Jacob found his home at Miami University after starting 24 games as a freshman and became a force to recon with during his sophomore and junior campaigns. Heyward started all 64 games for the Hurricanes in left field this past season and batted .242 with six home runs, 39 RBIs and an on-base percentage of .403. Heyward had ten multi-hit games and seven multi-RBI games.
For the AZL Giants, Heyward had posted a batting average of .337 with 16 extra-base hits in 95 at bats. Heyward continues to get on base via walks (24) which allows him to have an on-base percentage of .488. He has also posted 10 stolen bases in 12 attempts.
The Volcanoes welcome both players in hopes of finishing the season strong after a tough series vs. the Eugene Emeralds. The Volcanoes have taken the first two games of five from Vancouver and return to Salem-Keizer Saturday, September 3 to take on the Boise Hawks.
