Three Homers Power Bisons To Win Over Pigs May 6th 2017, 19:55
The IronPigs faltered in game one of a scheduled doubleheader Saturday afternoon with an 8-0 loss to the Buffalo Bisons at Coca-Cola Field.
In what was scheduled to be a doubleheader after Friday night's game was postponed, the Pigs and Bisons were only able to get one game in as the Bisons shutout the Pigs.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the first, Bisons second baseman Jason Leblebijan drove in a two-run double to put the Bisons on top 2-0. Ian Parmley then singled to drive home another run in the frame and the Bisons took an early 3-0 lead.
The Bisons then added a four-spot in the third inning as Leblebijan and Parmley struck again for the Bisons. With two runners on, Leblebijan launched a three-run homer to double the Bisons lead to 6-0. Parmley then followed suite and the Bisons went back-to-back as Parmley launched a solo shot to cap off the four-run inning.
Pigs starter Ricardo Pinto went just three innings as he surrendered seven runs on five hits and walked four, picking up his third loss of the season.
Colton Murray then relieved Pinto and tossed two innings, allowing just one run on one hit that was a Mike Olhman solo home run in the fifth to give the Bisons a 8-0 lead.
Jorge Alfaro and Taylor Featherston each notched two-hit games for the Pigs, but Pigs bats were just 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position and they left six on base.
The Pigs and Bisons will make a second effort at a doubleheader Sunday afternoon with game one beginning at 2:05 p.m. The Pigs will send right-hander Mark Appe (1-2, 7.48)l for game one and the Bisons will send southpaw Brett Oberholtzer (0-1, 2.57). In game two right-hander Luis Garcia (0-0, 16.20) will make a spot start for the Pigs and right-hander Luis Santos (1-2, 4.42) will start for the Bisons.
