
Three Homers Lift Threshers to Comeback Win

TAMPA, FL - The Clearwater Threshers (69-34, 25-13) took the lead late on homers from Justin Crawford, Troy Schreffler, and Bryson Ware to comeback from five runs down in a 10-8 win over the Tampa Tarpons (50-54, 19-19) on Wednesday night at Steinbrenner Field. The Threshers and Tarpons continue their series with a Thursday evening doubleheader in Tampa.
The Tarpons took the lead in the second, scoring on a double play with the bases loaded to take a 1-0 lead. Clearwater responded in the top of the third, beginning with a ground-rule double by Ryan Leitch off Tampa starter Cam Schlittler. Emaarion Boyd hit a slow-rolling single to right that scored Leitch from second and tied the game at one.
Tampa added three more runs in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead. Boyd reached on a one-out single and moved to second on a walk to Cristian Pache. Tarpons reliever Ocean Gabonia's pickoff attempt deflected off the second baseman's glove and into right field, Pache moved to third and Boyd scored to make it 4-2 Tarpons. Crawford drove in Pache on a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to one run.
With two runs in the fifth and sixth, the Tarpons extended their lead to 8-3. The Threshers started a two-out rally with Pache's single off Tarpons reliever Anderson Muñoz. Crawford crushed a two-run home run to right to cut the deficit to three runs. Zach Arnold continued the inning with a ten-pitch at-bat resulting in a two-out single before Cole Moore laced a double to right to bring the Threshers within two runs at 8-6.
Ty Penner led off the eighth by drawing a walk and advanced to third on a ground-rule double by Leitch. During Troy Schreffler's at-bat, Tarpons reliever was called for a balk which allowed Penner to score from third. Shortly afterward, Schreffler launched a pitch into centerfield for a go-ahead two-run home run to give the Threshers their first lead of the game at 9-8.
Bryson Ware added a solo home run in the ninth off Tarpons reliever Montana Semmel that grew the Threshers advantage to two runs. Wen-Hui Pan completed the six-out save with four strikeouts to seal the comeback win 10-8.
Jean Cabrera allowed four runs (one earned) on four hits in 4.0 innings with two walks and five strikeouts in a no-decision. Daniel Harper surrendered four runs on three hits with four walks and one strikeout in 1.2 frames. Yoniel Ramirez (3-0) did not allow a run in 1.1 innings with one walk and one hit allowed in the win. Pan earned the save in 2.0 shutout frames, allowing one walk and one hit with four strikeouts.
Ramirez earned his first win for the Threshers since May...Ware's homer in the ninth was the first of his career...The five-run comeback was the second-largest comeback win for the Threshers this season...Pache went 2-3 with two walks and two runs in his second rehab game with the Threshers...Boyd drove in his 30th run of the season in the third...Arnold recorded his first career multi-hit game as a pro...The Threshers continue their six-game road series against the Tampa Tarpons with a doubleheader on Thursday, August 10 at Steinbrenner Field...
