Three Homers Aren't Enough
The Elmira Pioneers headed to Glens Falls on Tuesday to take on the Golden Eagles for the first time in the 2011 season. The Pioneers would open up scoring in the top half of the first inning taking a 1-0 lead when David Bishop (Mississippi State) would knock one out of the park.
The Pioneers would boost their lead in the top of the third inning when Geoff Jimenez (Florida Atlantic) singled and Justin Lamborn (West Chester) smashed the second homerun of the night making the score 3-0.
Glens Falls would rally back in the bottom of the third to take the lead. Kyle Ruchim (Northwestern) would start the inning off with a single, Daniel Klein (Kansas State) singled, and Anthony Pisani (Southern Mainer) would reach on a fielder's choice. John Koch (Arkansas State) walked John Rooney (Siena) to load the bases and Roger Bernal (Texas Pan America) singled to drive in both Pisani and Klein. Ricky Claudio (St. Thomas) smashed a double to bring in Rooney for run. Josh Anderson (Yavapai) would ground out to bring Bernal in for the run. With a single from Zac Hawkins (LSU-Eunice) Claudio would score. Pioneers would bring in Adam Davis (St. John's) to relieve Koch. Davis would shutdown the Golden Eagles to end the third.
The Pioneers answered back in the top of the sixth when Bishop smashed another one out of the park to bring the score 5-4.
Glens Falls tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh against Mike Kazley(Cornell). Pisani and Rooney singled and moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Bernal. Anderson grounded out to third scoring Pisani. After the run Jimmy Reed (Central Florida) would come in for Kazley and limit the damage. The Golden Eagles made the score hold up, with Ruchim coming in to earn the save.
The Pioneers return to action tonight at Dunn Field where they take on the Amsterdam Mohawks in a 7:05 start. Tonight at the field is Bark in the Park sponsored by the Chemung County SPCA. Fans bring your dog and their rabies certificate to play in the picnic area during the game.
The Pioneers continue the action at home on Saturday June 18th would a double header as the take on the Newark Pilots starting at 5:05pm. Saturday is Spectacular Saturday where you can win the "Lucky Fan" giveaway with prize such as a DVD Player, HD TV, restaurant certificates and more.
