Soltis, Wacker lead hitting spree for Dawgs Field Trip Game at Vets Park
June 15, 2011 - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL)
Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs News Release
The Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs opened their gates to a crowd of nearly 2,000 excited elementary students this morning for a 10:30 a.m. game against the Newark Pilots. Things started off on a positive note, when Dawgs shortstop Dave Soltis, (Jr, Bryant University) hit a three run homer over the center field wall for his first of the year.
Sophomore Cullen Wacker added a two run double three innings later to give Dawgs Starting Pitcher Selby Brummett (So, Paradise Valley) the cushion he needed. His six inning performance earned him his first win of the season, and the Dawgs pulled to one game above .500 with their 3rd win of the summer.
The visiting Pilots strung together a few runs, pushing across three on the day courtesy of a few timely hard-hit doubles in the 5th. But an inning ending double play induced by Brummett killed the rally, and the Dawgs were able to outlast the Pilots, coming out on top by a score of 7-3.
Mohawk Valley will have an off day on Thursday before traveling to Amsterdam for the first matchup of the year between the two rivals. The Pilots play host to Watertown on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
