
Three Former Dogs Capture Kent Cup Title

SAINT JOHN - Three former members of the Saint John Sea Dogs took home the Maritime Junior Hockey League's top prize yesterday. Jason Seed, Spencer MacDonald and Danny Chiasson laid claim to the Kent Cup with the Summerside Western Capitals, defeating the Truro Bearcats 3-0 in Game 5 of the final series.
It's the Capital's third Kent Cup in five years, and their season was filled with impressive numbers. The team put together an incredible regular season run, winning 43 of 52 games, setting a franchise best win percentage in the process, and continued the run, going 12-1 in the playoffs.
Seed, after being acquired from the Gatineau Olympiques on Jan. 3, 2011, played the full 2011-12 and the first half of the 2012-13 season with the Sea Dogs. Last season Seed saw action in 64 games with Saint John, adding 10 assists. During the Dogs run to the franchise's second consecutive President Cup, the 6'1", 175-pound Seed scored his second career Quebec Major Junior Hockey League goal and first as a Sea Dog.
Continuing with Saint John in 22 games this year, the Ottawa, ON native notched two goals and added eight assists. Once joining Summerside, Seed dressed in 26 games and posted four goals and 15 helpers for 19 points in the regular season. During their post-season run, he posted another three goals and eight assists.
MacDonald playing three full seasons with the Captials from 2008-2011. The Sea Dogs acquired MacDonald in a trade with the Montreal Juniors on Aug. 5, 2010. He was then called up for two games with the Dogs in 2010-11 and the 5'11", 180-pound defenceman added a single assist in the stint. He played full-time in the QMJHL in 2011-12 suiting up in 63 games and adding three goals along with seven assists and 65 penalty minutes.
Chiasson also had a brief six game stretch with the Sea Dogs as a call-up. The 20-year-old Edmundston, NB native saw action in six games with Saint John and scored a goal and added two assists. He was acquired by Saint John on Dec. 21, 2011 in a deal with the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. Chiasson led the Capitals in scoring in both the regular season and playoffs. His 34 goals, 54 assists and 88 points were all team highs and he added another 12 goals and 11 assists during the Captials' run to clinch the Kent Cup.
