Florida Firecats News Release

Estero, FL- As if enough drama was not already riding on the Florida Firecats (10-5/ American South Division champions) game against the Tennessee Valley Vipers (11-4/ American Mid-South Division champions), on Saturday, three Firecats are also approaching incredible feats.

Fullback Steve Gorrie, already the arenafootball2 all-time single season rushing record holder (475), is only 25 yards away from being the first arena player to ever rush for 500 yards. Gorrie is currently averaging 31.7 yards a carry. The Tennessee Valley defense only allows 18.8 rushing yards a game, so it will be a battle to reach 500 for Gorrie. Still, Gorrie remains focused on team goals and not his own individual goals.

"We need to stay focused every minute of every quarter and take it one game at a time," Gorrie said. "If we get out there and play our game, we are a scary team to play with."

Defensive specialist Quincy Sorrell, the arenafootball2 all-time career tackle leader, is only 4.5 tackles away from becoming just the third player in af2 history to record 100 tackles. Sorrell currently has 95.5 tackles, a full ten-tackle lead over his closest competitor. Sorrell, who has collected 20 tackles in his last two games, also remains focused on the team and not himself.

"We have done everything that we needed to do so far this season," Sorrell said. "Now it's time to put on the finishing touches."

Big time Firecat record breaker Cainon Lamb also looks to etch his name into the Firecat record book one more time. So far this season, Lamb has broken the team career scoring, career receptions, and career receiving touchdowns records. Lamb is now 66 yards away from breaking the career receiving yards record. Lamb has 2,263 receiving yards in two seasons as a Firecat, and he needs only 66 more to own the record. Lamb needs only 34 yards to achieve another 1,000-yard season.

The winner of Saturday's game will take a number two seed into the playoffs, acquiring a first round bye in the playoffs and hosting a second round game. The loser will host in the first round, but they will hit the road for the second round.
