Memphis Xplorers News Release

SOUTHAVEN, MS- The 2004 season has seen the Memphis Xplorers break new ground as a franchise. With both team and individual records being set, league records in danger of falling, and the team's first-ever playoff appearance, the 2004 season will be one to remember for years to come for Xplorers fans.

Leading the pack is Memphis's offensive specialist, Kevin Prentiss. In his second year with the team, Prentiss has either broken, or is poised to break, twelve different team records. Prentiss already has set records this year for All-Purpose Yards (2,652 yds), receptions (96), longest kickoff return (58 yards), kickoffs returned for touchdowns (8, which ties a league record), receiving yards (1400 yds), receiving touchdowns (31), points scored (234) and touchdowns scored (39).

With a performance this Saturday commensurate with his average statistical output, he can set records for receiving yards a game (currently 100 yards per game), longest reception (47 yards, currently tied), kickoff return yards (currently second with 1188 yards), and kickoff return average (29.0 yards per return). The last statistic may be the most incredible, considering that Prentiss leads the league in both kick return average and total number of returns.

Quarterback Michael Wall's efficiency in the passing game also has him in position to set a record, for highest average quarterback rating. His rating of 127.14 since arriving in Memphis is a full 22 points better than the current leader in that statistic in Xplorers history.

Wall's statistics for the entire year have been superb as well. Combining his statistics in Memphis with his statistics in Tulsa, Wall is second in the league in quarterback rating at 119.9, just percentage points behind current leader Bob Bees. For the year, Wall has completed 62.4 percent of his passes for 2,893 yards and 66 touchdowns, while throwing only seven interceptions.

Kicker Steven Green, who arrived in Memphis after a brief stint with the Albany Conquest, is also having a record-breaking year. His 23 field goals during his time in Memphis give him the record for most field goals made in a season. Adding in the two field goals that he connected on during his time in Albany, Green leads the league in field goals made with 25.

Other notable record-breakers for the Xplorers include WR/LB Ryan Karr and DS Dahnel Singfield. Karr has already set the team record for forced fumbles with five, and currently is tied for the league lead in that category. Singfield has set team records for interceptions (7) and passes defended (42), and could move into the lead in the team record books for interception return yardage before the end of the year.

Despite the individual accomplishments that this year has seen, the Xplorers are focused on the outcome of the team, and they will bring that focus to bear this weekend, as they take on the Columbus Wardogs (6-9) in their final game of the regular season. The Xplorers are playing for more than pride, however --- a win could put the Xplorers in a position to move up in the seeding for the 2004 playoffs. The Xplorers have already set a team record for most wins in a season with 9, and will look to extend that record this weekend.

Game time is set for 6:35 PM CST. All sixteen regular season Xplorers football games will be heard throughout the Mid-South on SportsPlus 790 WMC, and worldwide on SportsJuice.com. In addition, all home games will be broadcast on X-Cast, a special in-house radio broadcast designed specifically for the DeSoto Civic Center. X-Cast airs on 107.9 FM, and can be received while in the DeSoto Civic Center by using a walkman or other personal radio. Fans can also watch the Xplorers during selected games during the season on AF2TV.com, which offers live streaming video and audio on a pay-per-view basis.
