Belleville Bulls News Release
Belleville Bulls forwards Austen Brassard and Michael Curtis along with goaltender Tyson Teichmann are among the 22 players selected to represent the Canadian Under 18 team at the 2010 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka Tournament being held August 9-14 in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Bulls General Manager and Head Coach George Burnett is Canada's Head Coach for the event.
The roster was finalized following a four day selection camp in Calgary that included daily practices and three Red-White intersquad games. Canada is a two time defending tournament champion and has won the event in five of the past six years.
Canada will face the Czech Republic in an exhibition game on August 7 before opening the tournament versus Sweden two days later. The Canadian side will also face Switzerland and Slovakia in round robin play.
"It was a very competitive camp, and choosing these 22 players was by no means an easy task," said Burnett. "All of the players named today have earned their spot on the roster, and we look forward to getting to Europe and defending Canada's gold medal."
Brassard enjoyed a strong selection camp with one goal and five points in three intersquad games while also scoring a shootout winning goal. Curtis recorded a goal and an assist in three games while Teichmann allowed fewer goals than any of the four goaltenders in camp.
Brassard, Curtis, and Teichmann are all entering their second OHL season with Belleville. Last season, Brassard scored 10 goals while adding 19 assists in 63 games played split between the Bulls and Windsor Spitfires while Curtis recorded 19 goals and 24 points in 67 games played. Both Brassard and Curtis were named to the OHL All-Rookie Second Team following the conclusion of the 2009-2010 season. Teichmann recorded a 6-14-0-2 record along with a 4.29 GAA and .875 SV% in 30 games played with the Bulls. He also won a silver medal with Team Ontario at the 2010 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge.
