
Three Blades Prospects Competing at 2023 WHL Cup

Saskatoon, SK - The Saskatoon Blades are proud to announce forward Zach Olsen, defenceman Jack Lavallee, and netminder Ryley Budd will compete at the 2023 WHL Cup. This year marks the tenth year of the event and showcases the top 2008-born players from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.
Budd is representing Team Alberta after being selected in the second round 42nd overall by the Blades during the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft. The 5-foot-11 goalie was named the Hockey Alberta Player of the Year in May after an impressive season with the Alberta Northstars U15 AAA. The Calgary, AB product owned an 8-10-0 record, a .916 goals-against-average, and two shutouts. Budd made a name for himself at the 2023 Alberta Cup going 1-2-0 with a .941 save-percentage and a 2.33 goals-against-average.
Fellow Calgary product Olsen joins Budd for Team Alberta after 34 points (13G, 21A) in 30 games with Edge School U15 prep last season. The 6-foot forward was the Blades first pick of the draft in May, selected 29th overall in the second round. The 15-year-old center participated at the Alberta Cup for Team Green and scored three points (1G, 2A) in five games.
Saskatoon, SK's own Jack Lavallee will help anchor the blueline for Team Saskatchewan. The 5-foot-11 defender scored 38 points (10G, 28A) with the Saskatoon Stallions U15 AA squad last year, tacking on 26 penalty minutes as well.
Scheduled to be held October 18-22, the 2023 WHL Cup will be played exclusively at the Peavey Mart Centrium - home of the WHL's Red Deer Rebels.
