Hurricanes Trade Hayden Smith to Silvertips

LETHBRIDGE, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced Thursday they have acquired an eighth-round draft pick in the 2027 Western Hockey League Prospects Draft from the Everett Silvertips in exchange for 2004-born forward Hayden Smith.

Smith, 19, was originally acquired by the Hurricanes during the 2021-2022 season from the Saskatoon Blades. The Chetwynd, BC, product appeared in 105 regular season games with the 'Canes over parts of three seasons totaling 28 points (16g-12a) along with 27 penalty minutes. He marked a career high with 14 goals and 21 points in 68 games during the 2022-2023 campaign. Smith also appeared in five post-season games in Lethbridge collecting one goal.

"Hayden was a really hard worker and a good soldier for us in his time with the Hurricanes," said Hurricanes General Manager Peter Anholt. "He brought a lot to our young group the last couple of years, and we'd like to wish him nothing but the best moving forward in Everett with the Silvertips."

The Hurricanes now have a 23-man roster including 13 forwards, seven defenceman and two goaltenders.

The 'Canes open a two-game road trip on Friday as they visit the Moose Jaw Warriors at 7:00pm before visiting the Regina Pats on Saturday at 7:00pm. The Hurricanes will return to the ENMAX Centre on Wednesday, October 18th when they host the Calgary Hitmen at 7:00pm.
