Three Bandits Named 'NLL Player of the Week'

BUFFALO, NY (March 21, 2012) --- The National Lacrosse League today announced that three Buffalo Bandits, forward John Tavares, defenseman Scott Self and transition player Mark Steenhuis, have been named NLL Player of the Week at their respective positions for Week 11 of the 2012 NLL season.

Tavares was selected as the Offensive Player of the Week after combining for 11 points (7+4), including two game-winning goals, and eight loose balls over the weekend. The NLL's all-time leading scorer extended his record point total by registering his 1,600th career point on Saturday night. Tavares currently ranks fifth in the NLL in scoring with 53 points (25+28), tied for fourth with 25 goals and leads the league with 15 power play goals.

Self was named Defensive Player of the Week after posting a combined three points (2+1) and 12 loose balls in Buffalo's weekend sweep.

Steenhuis earned Transition Player of the Week honors by finishing the weekend with 11 points (5+6), including two shorthanded goals, and 10 loose balls.

The weekly player award winners are selected by a vote of the league's general managers and head coaches.

Buffalo defeated the Toronto Rock, 21-14 on Friday night and then beat the Minnesota Swarm at home on Saturday by a score of 13-10. The Bandits travel to Calgary this weekend to take on the Roughnecks on Saturday, March 24 at 9 p.m. before returning home to host the Toronto Rock on Saturday, March 31 at 7:30 p.m.
