Rock Sign Adam McGourty to Practice Roster
March 21, 2012 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Toronto Rock News Release
Toronto - The Toronto Rock have signed free agent defender Adam McGourty to the practice roster. Toronto Rock General Manager Terry Sanderson announced the move on Wednesday morning and the signing is pending league approval.
When Scott Johnston was moved to the active roster, it left one position open on the 3-man practice roster. Goaltender Zak Boychuck and defender Pete Rennie are the other two players on the Rock practice roster along with McGourty.
The 21-year old defender from Georgetown, Ontario was a third round pick of the Washington Stealth, 22nd overall, in the 2011 NLL Entry Draft. He played the first year of his junior lacrosse career with his hometown Halton Hills Junior B Bulldogs before moving on to play four years of Junior A with the neighbouring Brampton Excelsiors.
McGourty attended the training camp of the Stealth and even played in an exhibition game against the Rock in Langley, BC back in December. The Stealth were unable to find room to keep McGourty in the fold and he was released prior to the beginning of the 2012 NLL regular season.
The Rock will travel to Rochester Saturday to face the Knighthawks at 7:30pm at Blue Cross Arena. The game can be seen live on the NLL Network at NLL.com.
