Tavares, Self, Steenhuis & Crowley Honored

Three members of the Buffalo Bandits and the top overall pick from last year's Entry Draft have been named the latest NLL Players of the Week.

John Tavares, Scott Self and Mark Steenhuis each played a key role in helping Buffalo complete a weekend sweep with a 21-14 win at Toronto on Friday and 13-10 against Minnesota on Saturday. The sweep snapped a six-game losing streak and took the Bandits from 2-6 to a 4-6 record with six regular season games remaining.

Tavares was selected at the Offensive Player of the Week after totaling seven goals, including two game-winners, four assists and eight loose balls over the weekend. His final goal against the Swarm completed a hat trick and the made the league's all-time scoring leader the first to reach 1,600 points.

Self was named Defensive Player of the Week. In the two wins, he scored two goals, drew an assist and scooped up 12 loose balls.

Steenhuis was picked as the Transition Player of the Week. He finished with five goals - including two short-handed markers - six assists and 10 loose balls.

Kevin Crowley of the Philadelphia Wings picked up Rookie of the Week honors for the third time. The top overall pick in last year's NLL Entry Draft had a team-high four goals and three assists Saturday for the Wings in their 16-15 win over Edmonton.

The weekly player award winners are selected by a vote of the league's general managers and head coaches.
