Thornton's 17 Points Will Wings by Sparks
July 9, 2019 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA)
Dallas Wings News Release
Kayla Thornton's 17 points led the Dallas Wings (5-9) past the Los Angeles Sparks (7-7) 74-62 in front of a sold-out crowd of 6,885 on Kids Day this afternoon at College Park Center. This is Thornton's fifth game of racking up 15 or more points this season and the fourth time she's been the team's leading scorer.
Los Angeles won the tip off and squads would give and take for the first eight minutes, knotting the score seven times, before the Sparks took a 17-14 advantage with 1:58 left in the first quarter. LA's lead would only last until halfway through the second quarter when a Thornton hook shot would give the Wings a 28-27 leg up. Dallas would hold its lead for the rest of the contest, going up by as many 14, keeping the Sparks at a double-digit distance from the third quarter on thanks to multiple runs.
The Wings hit the road again and take on the Storm in Seattle Friday, July 12 at 9 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on the CBS Sports Network.
