Fresno Falcons News Release

Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons announced today that a "Falcons Face Off Against Kids Cancer" silent auction to benefit the Ashley Roberts Fund will take place at Chukchansi Park Monday during the Hockey vs Hunger Food Drive at the Grizzlies 7PM game. Eight year old Ashley Roberts of Madera was part of the Falcons Face Off Against Kids Cancer Program started by Falcons Head Coach Matt Thomas this past season. Ashley lost her 20 month battle to cancer on the 4th of July! Throughout the course of the season Coach Thomas, Falcons players, and staff adopted more than twenty-five local pediatric cancer patients and hosted events and fundraisers with, and for the kids. These events included pizza parties at hockey games, Falcons players hosting visits in the dressing room, a Kids Prom, a trip to Pump it Up, etc. The Falcons raised more than $ 25,000.00 for kids cancer programs with the St. Baldrick's Day head shaving event this past March raising more than $ 18,000.00.

Coach Matt Thomas reflects on this past year of getting to know the kids: "Our goal is to get to know these kids, boost their spirits, boost their family morale, and raise money and awareness for kids' related cancers. Ashley Roberts, like all of the kids we worked with this past season, was a special and courageous young lady. Truthfully, getting to know Ashley was a boost to my morale and helped me put things in perspective. It is with heavy hearts that we are hosting this Silent Auction for Ashley's family Monday night, but we encourage everyone to pitch in, donate and assist the family with the excessive financial burden they have endured these past twenty months."

The Falcons Face Off Against Kids Cancer" silent auction to benefit the Ashley Roberts Fund will feature old Falcons autographed jerseys, autographed helmets, and other Falcons merchandise. Falcons fans are also encouraged to donate to the Ashley Roberts fund at any Bank of America branch by referencing account number 02387-67959. Joe Thornton of the San Jose Sharks has graciously donated an autographed jersey which will be part of the live auction Monday night. The Thornton jersey proceeds will benefit the Ashley Roberts Fund.

All fans attending Monday's baseball game are encouraged to donate food to the Poverello House. Any fan who donates food will be admitted to the Grizzlies game for only $ 5. The Falcons game worn blue jerseys will be auctioned after the game to raise money for the Poverello House. The Poverello House Jersey Auction will take place in the Tecate Cantina. Remember Fans, Hunger Knows No Season, please donate food on Monday night.

The Fresno Falcons open their 2008 Quest for the Kelly Cup on Friday, October 19 at the Save Mart Center vs the Las Vegas Wranglers at 7:30pm presented by Eye Q Vision Care. Falcons season tickets are on sale now. For more information call the Falcons at (559) 485-PUCK!
