
Checkers Announce Hockey Operations Staff

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers announced today that three members of the hockey operations staff are back on-board for the upcoming season.
Allan Egeland is set to return as assistant coach of the Checkers for the fourth season. The former National Hockey League draft pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning played two seasons for the Checkers helping them to back-to-back Kelly Cup Playoff appearances. He began his coaching career with Charlotte as a player/assistant coach during the 2004-2005 season. Head coach Derek Wilkinson is happy to see Egeland return behind the Checkers bench, "Allan is a great asset to the organization and I am excited he is returning as assistant coach."
Scott LaGrand will also return as director of player personnel. The Potsdam, New York native is a former teammate of Wilkinson and Egeland with the Atlanta Knights of the International Hockey League. This will mark LaGrand's fourth season with the Checkers. His duties will include player recruitment and evaluation.
Mike Brown returns as head equipment manager of the team for the second year. Brown is a former locker room manager for the Carolina Hurricanes of the NHL and associate equipment manager with the Greensboro Generals. Brown spent 31 years in his hometown with the Greensboro Fire Department holding the rank of assistant fire chief.
The Checkers also announced that Mike Spears joins team as assistant equipment manager. The native of Suffolk, Virginia worked with the Hampton Admirals now Norfolk Admirals of the AHL.
The Checkers enter their 15th season of play as a member of the ECHL in October 2007. In the team's 14-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 10 times including three consecutive playoff appearances to date. The Checkers will enter their third season of play at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena this fall. Season tickets are on sale now with full-season packages starting at just $399.
