Texas Wildcatters News Release
BEAUMONT, TX (July 20, 2007) - The Texas Wildcatters have signed forward Jordie Preston to a contract for the 2007-08 season, the team announced Friday. As per team policy, financial terms of the agreement were undisclosed.
In his final season with the Windsor (ON) Lancers, Preston led all scorers in Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS)-the Canadian equivalent to the NCAA-by a large margin, registering 55 points (26-29-55) in only 28 games.
"Jordie had an outstanding senior season and really matured into a very good power forward," said Wildcatters Head Coach and VP of Hockey Operations Malcolm Cameron. "More than that, he is an addition of another quality character guy to our locker room. We are very excited to have a player and person of his caliber on the team this season."
Preston was named MVP of his university athletic conference, the 16-team Ontario University Athletics (OUA), while starring for the struggling Lancers who finished with only seven conference victories. Preston was in on 56% of the team's goals.
Preston, 24, is a native of Beford, NS and was teammates with recently acquired forward Brandon Benedict while playing for the Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL.
"It's real exciting to be beginning my pro career in Texas, and I'm looking forward to playing with Brandon again," said Preston. "I've heard great things about Coach Cameron's program and can't wait to get started."
This marks the second consecutive season that the Wildcatters have signed the CIS scoring champion. Kevin Baker's 47 points for Acadia in 2005-06 was good for a share of the title and earned Baker CIS Player of the Year honors.
