Thompson Tallies Two to Help Wolves Match Franchise Record

ROSEMONT, Ill. - Captain Paul Thompson netted both goals as the Wolves shut out the Grand Rapids Griffins 2-0 Saturday night at Allstate Arena. The victory pushed Chicago's point streak to 14 games to match the franchise record set in 2007.
Goaltender Kasimir Kaskisuo (7-8-1) made 32 saves for his second shutout of the season. The 24-year-old's first shutout was also a 2-0 decision over the Griffins (16-16-1-4) on Nov. 3.
"He was outstanding," said Wolves head coach Rocky Thompson. "He was the reason we were able to win that game. He made half a dozen big, big saves. Our guys battled hard for him and they didn't want to let him down because he wasn't letting them down all game."
After a scoreless first period, Thompson set up in front of goaltender Jared Coreau's crease and deflected a Dmitry Osipov point shot to give Chicago (18-12-5-2) the 1-0 lead at 6:48 of the second session.
With 16 seconds left in the final frame, Thompson fired a shot from center ice that skidded into the empty net for the 2-0 final score.
Coreau (12-9-2) made 27 saves in the loss.
The Wolves travel to California for the first time in 18 seasons for a three-game road trip. They begin California competition on Wednesday, Jan. 10, against the San Diego Gulls. Puck drop is 9 p.m. and the game will stream on AHLLive.com .
