The Saint John Sea Dogs announced today that defenseman Thomas Chabot will be inducted into the Sea Dogs Hall of Fame. Chabot, an NHL star and alternate captain with the Ottawa Senators, played his entire junior career with the Sea Dogs.

The native of Ste-Marie, Quebec, will join former Sea Dogs Head Coach Gerard Gallant and former Sea Dogs Head Coach and GM Mike Kelly as part of the Class of 2023. All three will be inducted during the Sea Dogs Hall of Fame weekend June 23-25 in Saint John.

"It's an honour for me because Saint John is where it all started," said Chabot. "I loved every minute that I spent playing and living there, I met great people along the way and created friendships that will last a lifetime."

Chabot was drafted by the Sea Dogs in 2013 and played his entire career for the franchise amassing 42 goals and 198 points in 242 games. His junior career included being recognized as the 2017 CHL Defenseman of the Year, 2017 QMJHL Defenseman of the Year, 2017 QMJHL Personality of the Year, and being named a QMJHL All-Star twice. In 2017, he was recognized as the QMJHL Playoffs' MVP with 23 points in 18 playoff games, en route to winning the 2017 President Cup. He is the franchise's second all-time leader in both regular season points and playoff points by a defenseman.

"Thomas is an important member of our Sea Dogs family and our franchise history" said Sea Dogs' President and General Manager, Trevor Georgie. "There are so many deserving alumni, but Thomas' impact on the franchise is undeniable and we wanted to honor him. In June, we will be celebrating two eras of Sea Dogs hockey with Thomas receiving his blue jacket along with Gerard and Mike."

Chabot's international career includes the honours of Best Defenseman, MVP, and being named to the All-Star Team at the 2017 U20 IIHF World Junior Championships en route to winning silver with Team Canada.

Drafted in the first round of the 2015 NHL Draft by the Ottawa Senators, Chabot has played in 357 NHL games, scoring 50 goals and 214 points in his six seasons with the team, and was named to the 2019 NHL All-Star Game as a 22 year old. Continuing his success internationally as well, he has won silver at two IIHF Men's World Championships, including once as the captain of Team Canada in 2022.

The Sea Dogs Hall of Fame was launched in 2018 and its current members include Calgary Flames forward Jonathan Huberdeau and Captain of the 2011 Memorial Cup Team Mike Thomas. The 2024 Sea Dogs Hall of Fame Class will be announced at this year's ceremony.
