Thomas And Roe Named To All-Ironman Team

SAN JOSE, Calif. (May 21, 2003) - San Jose SaberCats' receiver/linebacker James Roe and defensive specialist/kick returner Clevan Thomas were both selected to the Arena Football League's All-Ironman Team, it was announced today by the league office.
The SaberCats, who have secured the top seed in the Drive to ArenaBowl XVII, Indiana Firebirds and Tampa Bay Storm led all AFL teams with two selections each to the 2003 team. The Arizona Rattlers, Chicago Rush, Dallas Desperados, Georgia Force, Los Angeles Avengers and Tampa Bay Storm were each represented with one selection.
Roe, who led the SaberCats with a team record 115 receptions for 1,440 yards and 31 touchdowns, also excelled on the defensive side of the ball while playing all 16 games. The former Norfolk State star totaled 16.5 tackles, returned one of his three interceptions for a touchdown and scored on a fumble recovery.
Thomas set a league record with 13 interceptions and led the league with 35 passes defended while posting 38.5 tackles, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble. The second year players turned defensive stops into offense by leading the AFL with 236 missed field goal return yards. He also amassed 1,253 yards on 61 kickoff returns and tied for third in the league with four touchdowns.
Selection to the All-Ironman team was the first for each player.
