Christmas House serves the Snohomish County community. Their goal is to provide children from low income families with new toys, gifts and clothing during the holidays. Last year, over 8,500 children, newborn to 18, from over 2,800 families received gifts from Christmas House. For additional information, or if you would like to volunteer at Christmas House, visit their website www.christmas-house.org. Christmas House is a 501© non-profit organization registered in Washington State.
Silvertip Fans Step Up to the Plate
The Everett Silvertips and their fans teamed up for a large-scale food drive Saturday night, raising 1,331 pounds of non-perishable goods for the Volunteers of America Food Bank. As 1.3 pounds equals one meal, the Everett hockey community provided roughly 1,000 meals for the disadvantaged citizens of Western Washington, all within three days of the original call for donations.
"We appreciate everybody participating in this worthwhile event," Silvertips Vice President / General Manager Doug Soetaert noted. "It's great to see the fans unite not just behind our team, but also for civic-minded causes. The entire area thanks them for their generosity."
The food bank donations are part of a larger thrust to help out the area's less fortunate. Along with Friday night's "Give a Child a Holiday" toy drive and last year's dual "Make Noise for Hunger" nights - in which Everett fans used Kraft Macaroni and Cheese boxes as noisemakers before depositing them in collection bins - the Silvertips have engineered several unique ways to generate a culture of generosity at Comcast Arena. Beginning this weekend, Christmas House, along with the Silvertips, will be commencing a large scale stuffed animal drive to further enhance the holiday spirit throughout all homes in Snohomish County. More information on Christmas House's stuffed animal drive will be provided at www.everettsilvertips.com.
EDITOR'S NOTE: Hockey fans, everybody in the Silvertips front office has been completely blown away by the overwhelming generosity exhibited in the holiday food drive last weekend. Our conference room was filled to the gills with boxes and bags of food, and we can't thank you enough for your thoughtfulness. Everybody in this supportive hockey community has gone far and beyond their civic responsibilities, and we hope that you'll continue to reach out during this holiday season and donate to Christmas House.
Two-Game Homestand This Weekend
The Silvertips continue their drive up the U.S. Division standings this weekend at Comcast Arena, where they'll be hosting the Portland Winter Hawks Friday evening at 7:35 pm and the Kootenay Ice Saturday evening at 7:05 pm. Friday's game against Portland features a Judd and Black Super Friday, where one lucky fan will receive an amazing electronics package. Following this homestand, Everett will head up to northern British Columbia to take on the Prince George Cougars next Friday and Saturday. The Silvertips will then return home for a three-game homestand to conclude the pre-holiday portion of the schedule with games against Calgary (Tuesday, 12/9), Medicine Hat (Friday, 12/12) and Prince George (Saturday, 12/13).
