Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y.) - The Long Island Ducks, in conjunction with 106.1 WBLI, will hold their fourth annual "Anthem Idol Contest" on Saturday, April 5, at Citibank Park. Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. with contestants vying for up to five anthem openings. The auditions are open on a first-come, first-serve basis to the first 106 registrants. The panel of judges will consist of Ducks and WBLI personalities.
"We receive tons of taped auditions during the year, but there really is nothing like a live audition for a performer to showcase his or her talents," says Ducks promotions manager Morgan Tranquist. "This year is going to be better than ever, and we can't wait to see everyone here at the ballpark on the 5th."
Last year's auditions were a great success, as many "Island Idol" hopefuls lined up to perform. The lucky winners were each given their moment in the spotlight, performing the national anthem at a Ducks game during the season. In 2005, the contest's inaugural year, Levittown's Kevin Covais turned his success in the contest into an appearance in the finals of the 2006 season of Fox's American Idol.
Performances will be held a capella with a one-minute thirty second time limit. Instrumentalists and other unique performers are encouraged to participate as well. No tapes will be accepted.
The Long Island Ducks play their home games at Citibank Park and are entering their eighth season of play in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. For further information, please visit www.liducks.com or call (631) 940-3825.
