Third Straight Loss Drops C's Deeper in Standings

EUGENE, OR - The Eugene Emeralds (Giants) led wire-to-wire and handed the Canadians their third consecutive defeat in a 4-2 loss Thursday night at PK Park.
Eugene got on the board in the bottom of the first with their sixth home run in the last two days when Carter Williams took Chad Dallas (L, 1-6) deep to make it 1-0. Dallas would go on to work three innings plus two batters and allowed that lone run on three hits with five walks and three Ks.
The Emeralds scored two more in the fifth before Vancouver spoiled the shutout with a run in the sixth. Glenn Santiago led off the inning with a single, went to third on #8 Blue Jays prospect Alex De Jesus' first full-season affiliate hit - a double - since joining the Blue Jays from the Dodgers in the Mitch White trade nine days ago then #7 Blue Jays prospect Gabby Martinez scored Santiago with a run-producing groundout that cut the Ems lead to 3-1.
2022 fifth rounder Mason Fluharty made his professional debut and retired the first two batters of the seventh before a two-out walk opened the door for reigning Northwest League Player of the Week Jairo Pomares, who singled home that runner after a steal to put Eugene in front 4-1.
The Canadians rallied for a run in the ninth and brought the go-ahead score to the plate. Rainer Nunez worked a two-out walk, Riley Tirotta singled then PK Morris brought home pinch-runner Hugo Cardona from second base with a single of his own, but the game ended on a strikeout to strand the tying runs on base.
With the loss, the C's are now a game and a half back of first place in the second half and have fallen out of a postseason spot after Spokane (Indians) beat Hillsboro (Hops) tonight to retake second place in the overall standings, which is the tiebreaker if Eugene - who won the first half - also wins the second half.
Vancouver turns to #6 Blue Jays prospect Sem Robberse Friday night to play stopper and lead the Canadians back into the win column. He'll be opposed by #17 Giants prospect Nick Swiney at 6:35 p.m. Coverage is available on CanadiansBaseball.com and the Sportsnet Radio Network.
