Central Valley Coyotes News Release
Editors Note: Coyotes first-year defensive specialist VonKeith Spencer came to Central Valley as a free-agent after sitting last season out. Spencer last played in Rochester in 2002, leading the Brigade in tackles with 57, (47-solo) and 8 interceptions to go along with his 15 pass deflections.
This season Spencer is looking to rise back to the top as a feature defensive specialist in the af2t. He currently is second on the team in tackles with 7.5 and leads the Coyotes in interceptions (2) and pass deflections (6). His comments on the Coyotes season will appear regularly on centralvalleycoyotes.com.

This week practice has been really crisp and upbeat. The secondary has been working hard in one-on-one and three-on-three drills. Our goal this week as a secondary is to create turnovers, if we can create turnovers then we can give the ball back to the offense who can do something with it. We're not worried about our record, we're 0-3, but you know what, we're about to turn that corner any day now.
I've had a couple of days to watch a little film on Peoria this week. They're a good team, they don't make a lot of mistakes, which means we're going to have to have our defensive game on point. They have an excellent quarterback, [Michael Souza] who can hurt you through the air or on the ground. So we are going to have to contain him and force him to make poor decision on the field.
Their offensive specialist is a shifty receiver on film. So that means I need to work on my technique and mentally prepare myself for all of Peoria's receivers. They're a solid team offensively, but we're a solid team defensively, only one of us is going to come out on top.
This season hasn't started the way any of us would have liked it to, but that's in the past. We need to focus on the next 13 games on our schedule, beginning with the Peoria Pirates this weekend. As a team we need to improve every week, including myself. If I had to grade myself through the first three games, I would give myself a C+.
I need to work on being more consistent in my game. I can't take any plays off, or play the wrong coverage. I have to be mentally and physically sharp on every play for the entire game. If I do my part, then I'm now giving my teammates an opportunity to make a play on defense.
I'm excited about this week. We get to come home and play in front of our home crowd. I love getting the crowd involved in the game, they're like the 9th player on the field. When the crowd is on their feet yelling and making noise it distracts the other team and they can't hear their own signals. So I just want to say to all the Coyotes fan's, keep coming to the games and supporting us, and we'll get you a W!
