The QMJHL Community Joins Forces in the Battle Against Cancer
November 9, 2023 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Charlottetown Islanders News Release
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and its 18 franchises are uniting in a collaborative effort for the "Hockey Fights Cancer" campaign. The League is proud to participate in this initiative for the third consecutive year.
This awareness campaign within the hockey community aims to offer support to cancer patients and their families in their battle against this destructive disease. In Canada, cancer remains the leading cause of mortality, with an estimated two in five Canadians facing a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, and approximately a quarter of them succumbing to the disease.
Throughout the season's early stages, the QMJHL franchises are planning special themed events to raise funds for local charities and enhance awareness within their communities.
"The unity of the hockey community in supporting those affected by cancer holds profound significance," said Maxime Blouin, QMJHL Director of Communications and Media Relations. "Our joint effort highlights the determination of the hockey community to help combat this devastating illness and raise funds and awareness for those affected by it."
