The Need For Speed

Kalamazoo, MI- Wings West announces the West Michigan Speedskating Club will host a Free learn to Speedskating clinic at Wings West's Olympic Rink on Saturday, August 27th from 1-2:30 p.m.

The clinic is for adults and children of all ages, and the WMSC will provide skaters skates and helmets at no charge.

Due to limited helmets, the WMSC is requesting that if participants own bike helmet to bring it to the clinic.

Participants should also wear a long sleeve shirt and loose comfortable fitting pants. Skaters should also bring gloves, as well as shin pads and knee pads, if they have any.

Due to the nature of the sport, no hockey or figure skating skates will be allowed at the clinic. Participates should arrive at 12:30 p.m. on August 27th to be fitted with the proper skates and equipment.

The WMSC will also be hosting opening Speedskating at Wings West on Monday Nights from 7:45-9:15 p.m. at Wings West's Borgess Health Ice Rink starting on September 12th.

Speedskating is a competitive form of ice skating in which the competitors race each other in traveling a certain distance on skates. Types of Speedskating are long track Speedskating, short track Speedskating, and marathon Speedskating.
