The Loan List: Updates on Players out on Loan
April 3, 2022 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
New York Red Bulls II News Release
The New York Red Bulls currently have three players loaned out to other clubs for the 2022 season. Find out how they're faring and what kind of impact they're making at clubs across the world.
Jake LaCava
Coming off the past two seasons playing for New York Red Bulls II, LaCava is currently on loan with the Tampa Bay Rowdies for the 2022 season.
The Rowdies finished the 2021 USL championship regular season with the league's best record, and are currently second in the table with eight points through four matches.
The hot start is due, in no small part, to LaCava, who has a goal in all three of his starts so far this season, including the equalizer in a 1-1 draw in their last match against Hartford on March 27.
In his two seasons with Red Bulls II, LaCava made 46 appearances, tallying 11 total goals and eight assists.
David Jensen
Since being loaned out by New York to K.V.C Westerlo in June 2021, the Danish international has been a mainstay in goal. He has made 24 starts for his new club in the 1B Pro league in Belgium, with ten of those starts resulting in clean sheets.
Through 25 matches, K.V.C Westerlo currently sits at the top of the table, seven points clear of second place.
If K.V.C Westerlo holds their current league position, it would be their first trophy since winning the Belgian second division in 2014.
With Jensen in goal, they have allowed the lowest number of goals in the league, only letting 23 in so far this season.
Most recently, Jensen recorded a clean sheet in a 2-0 victory over KSK Lierse Kempenzonen on March 20.
Omar Sowe
On March 24, forward Omar Sowe was loaned out to Breiðablik Kópavogur, a top-tier side in Iceland, for the remainder of the 2022 MLS season.
Sowe, during his three-year stint with Red Bulls II, tallied 48 appearances, 17 goals, and four assists.
In 2021, Sowe led the team in goals (8), shots (55), and chances created (37) in 29 USL appearances. He also made his MLS debut for the Red Bulls on September 11 against D.C United.
Notables names that Breiðablik has produced include winger Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson and forward Alfreð Finnbogason. who both appeared for Iceland in the 2018 World Cup.
In 2021, they finished second in the league, only one point behind champions Víkingur Reykjavík.
Their league position means that they have qualified for the 2022 Europa Conference League first qualifying round, which Sowe will be available for.
Breiðablik begins their 2022 league season on April 19 against Keflavík ÍF.
