Omaha Lancers News Release
OMAHA, NE. - The Omaha Lancers concluded their three-game weekend Sunday (3/24) at home against the Des Moines Buccaneers. The Lancers had won in a shoot-out the previous night (3/23) against the very same Buccaneer club on the road in Urbandale.
The Lancers would welcome back defenseman David Posma with an awesome introduction prior to the game.
However, Des Moines would not be amused with Posma's 'welcome back tour' as the Bucs would be chirping at number 12 in black and orange throughout the opening frame.
Des Moines would get on the board first as well. Forward Braden Rourke would deflect a Des Moines wrister from the point giving Des Moines the 1-0 advantage.
However, the Lancers would respond shortly thereafter. Defenseman Jayden Veney would shoot from the point before Des Moines net-minder Ethan Dahlmeir would kick out a rebound to forward Jamison Sluys who would cash in to knot it up at one goal apiece heading to the second period of play.
The second period would have the Lancers continue to press in the early going.
Lancer forward Will Elger would score first in the middle frame, after a clean face-off win, Lancer line-mate Sam Scheetz would send a wrist shot from atop the face-off circle before Elger would deflect the puck 5-hole to put Omaha in front at 2-1.
However, Des Moines would eventually answer after Lancer forward Nick Pierre would find himself on a break-away before being tripped by a Buccaneer in front of the referee, but the official would decide to swallow his whistle before the Bucs would carry it the other way and score to knot it back up at two goals apiece.
Shortly thereafter, Des Moines would get a power-play and they would score once again as Davis Borozinskis would score to give the Bucs a 3-2 lead.
Later in the second, Lancer forward Ben Osiashvili would be assessed a double minor for 'high-sticking' however, it wasn't called during live play. The ref would decide to change the hockey rule book via rule 409 section A ('Should an infraction of the rules be committed by a player of the team in possession of the puck, the referee shall immediately stop play and assess the penalty(s) to the offending player(s)).' The on-ice official would proceed to access Osiashvili the double minor after the media time-out. The Lancers would manage to kill off the penalty; with Omaha trailing by just one goal heading into the third period of play.
The third period would have the Lancers come out firing however, Des Moines net-minder Ethan Dahlmeir would stand tall.
The Lancers would also continue to get bad calls as while on their first power-play of the night, the Lancers would be assessed a 'Too Many Men On The Ice' infraction. Jayden Veney was considered to have come off the ice late during the sequence however, he was just a foot away from the bench. Veney was nowhere near the puck, but it did not seem to matter to the linesmen and the Lancers power-play would be negated just like that.
Later, the Bucs would cap off the game with an empty-net tally to help ascend the Des Moines to a controversial 4-2 victory.
The Lancers are back in action Wednesday (3/27) at the Ice Box to take on the Lincoln Stars. Puck drop is at 11:00 AM. You can catch the game on Mixlr or FloSports.
