The Good Guys of Professional Sports

February 24, 2020 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) - Dallas Sidekicks News Release

(ALLEN, TEXAS) - The Dallas Sidekicks recently went through an ordeal that shook the players and the club to its core. While the team ate lunch on an away trip in Ontario, California, one of their locked vans was broken into and bags, equipment, and personal items were stolen. Some of these items can't be replaced because they were sentimental in nature and other items, like passports and visa documentation, will take weeks and perhaps months to replace.

The Sidekicks are part of the Major Arena Soccer League and unlike other professional sports in North America, the players of this league don't receive exorbitant salaries. They play for the love of the game and their passion for the sport is what drives them, not the paycheck.

Rookie forward Felipe De Sousa commented on the situation, "Having my inhaler stolen put me into a panic, coach Bozas paid for my replacement inhaler, but it wasn't fun to have to go to the clinic to get a new one. On top of that we had to get mentally prepared for the game against the Ontario Fury that night. It sucked on every level."

"The outpouring of love and support for our players and club shows the true impact these "Good Guys of Professional Sports" have on the community. They go to visit sick children at the hospitals, hang out with children at the Boys & Girls Club, and go to community nights out to spend time with underprivileged kids. We want to thank all who have offered a helping hand in this matter," Dallas Sidekicks legal counsel Alex S. said about the ordeal. Our fans have requested we provide a way for them to help support our players through this ordeal, first and foremost the club wants fans to come out and support the team at our remaining home games on February 28th and March 8th at the Allen Event Center. However, at the insistence of our fans, we will provide a modified list of items that were taken from the players. This list was originally provided by the players and has since been condensed and modified to comply with legal and contractual obligations and to give an idea to our fans of what was taken. If you have any questions or would like to receive the modified list please reach out to the Dallas Sidekicks' legal counsel Alex S. at alex@dallassidekicks.org.
