August 11, 2022 - Northwest League (NWL)
Eugene Emeralds News Release
Eugene brought in last night's momentum into game two of the series for their 63rd win this season.
Right-handed pitcher Keaton Winn started on the mound for the Emeralds. He was awarded the win after a strong pitching performance with four hits, three runs, two walks, and seven strikeouts in five innings.
The Canadians started the game hot as they immediately hopped on the board. Third baseman Damiano Palmegiani singled on a ground ball to left field, which led to center-fielder Dasan Brown scoring. Soon after, right fielder Riley Tirotta grounded into a force out but not without designated hitter PK Morris coming home to make the score 2-0.
Vancouver kept their first-inning momentum going after left fielder Gabriel Martinez doubled on a ground ball to left field, and Palmegiani crossed the plate.
The Emeralds responded as Jairo Pomares hit his 13th home run of the season over the center field wall in the bottom of the first inning to score Eugene's first run.
The rest of the night belonged to Eugene. In the bottom of the third inning, Max Wright hit a home run over the right-center field wall to bring the scoring gap to one.
Eugene tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning after Simon Whiteman hit his first home run of the season. A few batters later, Jairo Pomares hit an RBI single to right field to take the lead. Right after, Patrick Bailey hit a sacrifice fly to right field, and Carter Williams came home to make the score 5-3.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Jimmy Glowenke hit his ninth home run of the season to add one more run to the board for Eugene.
An inning later, Luis Toribio sent a ball over the right-center field wall to take a three-run lead over the Canadians.
Pomares singled on a ground ball to right field in the eighth inning and brought another runner home. Andy Thomas, one of the Giants' pickups from the recent trade deadline, hit an RBI groundout for the 10th and final runner coming home.
The Emeralds will look to keep their streak alive for the third game of the series. On old-school hip-hop night, the first pitch will be thrown at 6:35 PM PT. The game will be available to watch on MiLB.TV.
