Lubbock Cotton Kings News Release
LUBBOCK, TX: February 2, 2006 - The San Antonio Rampage, which serves as the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes, announced today they have called up Lubbock Cotton Kings defenseman Jason Beatty.
"I'm thrilled," exclaimed Cotton Kings Head Coach Chris Dashney. "He earned the opportunity, and this shows other young players in this league that hard work and dedication presents an opportunity to advance their career. You don't have to be drafted, and you do not have to rely on statistics to get a shot in the AHL. Hard work pays off, and I hope Jason does well and contributes to the Rampage."
Beatty, a 22 year-old native of Sturgis, Saskatchewan, has appeared in 38 games this season with the Cotton Kings and has a goal and six assists for seven points. He ranks second on the Kings squad this season with 88 penalty minutes. The Kings defenseman has spent his entire pro career with Lubbock and has appeared in 98 games, compiling five goals and ten assists for 15 points. Beatty has 213 career penalty minutes. The 6'1" 210-pound second-year King ranked third last season in majors amongst CHL defensemen with 15.
The call-up marks Beatty as the third Cotton Kings player to receive an in-season call up in franchise history. Derek Holland received a call up in the 00/01 season and Lance Leslie received a promotion during the 01/02 season. Beatty is the 17th player this season to advance to the American Hockey League after spending time in the CHL. He will join San Antonio Friday in Rochester, New York, as the Rampage begin a ten-game road trip.
