State College Spikes News Release

(STATE COLLEGE, PA) - As an added and slightly unnecessary sidebar to the State College Spikes "Bark in the Park" and "Dollar Dog Monday" promotions during Monday's 7:05 p.m. home game against the Auburn Doubledays, the club is encouraging fans at the game to responsibly take and send pictures of the Spikes' resident weiner via text, Twitter and Facebook.

While at Monday's game, fans can have fun snapping pictures of the Spikes' newest hot dog/weiner mascot, "Colonel Mustard", anywhere inside Medlar Field at Lubrano Park and send it to their friends. Fans will be asked to add the hashtag #SpikesWeiner to their Twitter pictures, and tag the State College Spikes on their Facebook pictures to let all of their friends see their snapshots of the Spikes weiner. The photo judged to be the best shot of the Spikes weiner mascot will receive two (2) free tickets to Tuesday's game against Auburn, a team filled with players hopeful of one day living in our nation's capital as members of the Washington Nationals.

"We're just looking to have a little fun while at the same time showing folks how to responsibly send photos via text, tweet and Facebook," said Jason Dambach, Spikes General Manager. "We also promise that sending photos of the Spikes' weiner is safe and harmless, and won't lead our participants to public scrutiny or job insecurity in any way."

Monday's game will also feature the professional debut of Stetson Allie as he takes the mound to start for the Spikes against the Doubledays. Allie, the second-round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2010, was rated by Baseball America prior to the season as both the third-best prospect in the Pirates' system and as having the best slider in the organization.

Plus, fans can bring out their dogs to sit in the Outfield Bleachers and roam the concourse at the first Bob's Bark in the Park night of the season, presented by Metzger Animal Hospital. Bring out your favorite four-legged friends to the ballpark for a night of family fun and meet Bob the Baseball Dog, who will host this canine convention. Fans can also purchase hot dogs for just $1 apiece throughout the game on Dollar Dog Monday, presented by 95.3 FM 3WZ.

Tickets for Monday's game, as well as every Spikes regular season home game, are currently on sale through the Spikes Box Office by calling (814) 272-1711, or by visiting in person. Fans can also buy and print single-game tickets by visiting StateCollegeSpikes.com.
