NORWICH, CT - The Connecticut Tigers fell 11-2 to the Tri-City ValleyCats on Monday night in the home opener for Connecticut at Dodd Stadium.
After allowing just six runs in the first three games of the season combined, the Tigers pitching staff surrendered 11 runs on 14 hits in game four alone.
The lone bright spot for the Tigers came on a two-run second inning home run off the bat of Zach Maggard, the first homer of his professional career. The long ball put Connecticut on top 2-1 after two innings before Tri-City poured it on.
The ValleyCats regained the lead with two runs in the third and would add on eight more runs before the game was put to rest.
Matt Duffy led the way for Tri-City, going 3-4 with a run scored and three RBI's.
Matt Crouse was saddled with the loss for the Tigers, while Kyle Hallock earned the victory for the ValleyCats.
The Tigers and ValleyCats will be back in action for game two of the three-game series tomorrow night at Dodd Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM.
