Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (April 1)- With six goals and three periods in the books, the Texas Brahmas are one game shy of winning the Southern Conference Semifinals series against Rio Grande Valley. The 6-2 victory by the Brahmas gave the Killer Bees their first loss at home in the playoffs.

An early start is just what the Brahmas needed when Captain Craig Minard beat Killer Bees netminder Wylie Rogers :51 seconds in the first period. The tempo of the game picked up as did the offense in the middle frame as Texas scored three goals. The scoring began with a Justin Kinnunen shorthanded goal six minutes in the period. Rio Grande Valley was able to cut the lead in half with a goal that trickled past Brahmas goaltender Brett Jaeger from Aaron Lee.

Texas' leading goal scorer in the Southern Conference Semifinals, Tyler Skworchinski, added another goal to his stats when he scored a powerplay goal at the 17:54 mark in the second. Defensemen Kevin McLeod and Nathan Saunders were credited with the assists. McLeod, who led all defensemen in the league in the regular season in goals displayed his scoring touch with a goal in the winding seconds of the second.

In the final period Pete Rouleau scored a wrap around goal from behind the Rio Grande Valley net for a 5-1 Texas lead. The Killer Bees were able to put up one more goal, but it wasn't enough. With :34 seconds remaining in the game Texas' forward Scott Sheppard tallied his first goal in the series aiding the Brahmas to victory for Game Three on the road. The Brahmas penalty kill held off the Bees throughout the game and they outshot Rio Grande 33-29.

The Brahmas will look to wrap up the series against Rio Grande Valley in Game Four Friday night on the road at 7:35 PM. Brahmas fans can catch all the action at the official watching party at ZuRoma Bar and Grill at the NYTEX Sports Centre beginning at 6 PM.
