Texas Legends Honor Basketball Great Spud Webb

Frisco, TX, OCT. 25, 2011 - The Texas Legends will honor the incredible basketball career of Spud Webb by hanging a banner in his honor on December 21 when the Legends play the Los Angeles D-Fenders.

Dallas native Spud Webb is most recognizable for his 1986 Slam Dunk title over teammate and defending champion Dominique Wilkins and Michael Jordan.

Not highly recruited by Division 1-A colleges due to his size, 5 feet 6 inches, Webb chose to play for Midland Junior College where he would lead the Chaparrals to a junior college national title in 1982. Following his success in junior college, Webb was offered a scholarship to North Carolina State where he led the Wolfpack to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament.

"Spud has been a basketball inspiration for years and we couldn't be happier to make a him a real Texas Legend by hanging a Spud Webb banner," Legends co-owner Donnie Nelson commented. "Honoring Spud has been high on my priority list and I am very excited that we can hang his 'jersey' in the rafters."

Currently Webb is in his second year as president of basketball operations for the Texas Legends.

"When Donnie approached me about this ceremony, I was truly humbled and honored," said Spud Webb. "It's going to be an exciting second season with the Legends, and I am thrilled that this ceremony can be part of it."

The Legends will open up their season with a home opener on Saturday, November 26th at 3:00PM. The Team plays at HP Court @ Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco.
