NORTH NOTES

Arkansas Travelers (Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim)

4-6, t-second place, North Division

May 7... Nick Green took the loss to Springfield, 4-3. He was charged with four runs on nine hits while fanning one in 6 1/3 innings. The Travelers made it close in the ninth. Cody Fuller smacked a two-run homer off reliever Chris Perez. Arkansas then loaded the bases on two walks and a hit batter before Perez regained his composure and struck out Curtis Pride and Greg Porter to end the game.

May 8... Chris Saenz took the loss, 4-2 to Springfield, allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits over four innings. Rafael Rodriguez tossed three scoreless frames before Jose Arredondo came on and twirled a 1-2-3 ninth. The Travelers scored their two runs on a pair of second-inning homers as Sean Rodriguez and Aaron Peel both went deep in the frame.

May 10... Arkansas was beaten by Tulsa 7-3. Starter Nick Adenhart took the loss. He allowed five runs on eight hits and three walks in 5 1/3 innings. Aaron Peel went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored for the Travelers.

May 11... Fernando Rodriguez tossed six stellar innings as the Travelers defeated visiting Tulsa, 3-1, in the opener of the doubleheader. Rodriguez allowed an unearned run on three hits and one walk, while striking out five. Jose Arredondo fanned two in a perfect seventh to earn his third save. The Travs' staked Rodriguez to an early lead as Michael Collins delivered a three-run double with two outs in the opening frame. Adam Morrissey led off the first with a double and scored. In game two, Rafael Rodriguez took the loss as Tulsa won 5-4. Adam Morrissey doubled, walked twice and scored two runs in the losing cause.

May 12... Nick Green pitched 8 1/3 strong innings and led Arkansas over visiting Tulsa, 5-3. Green was working on a shutout in the eighth inning before surrendering back-to-back doubles to Christian Colonel and Chris Frey. Green was chased with one out in the ninth after giving up Tulsa's fourth double of the game. The 22-year-old right-hander allowed three runs on eight hits, while striking out six. Green retired 10 straight batters between the second and the fifth. Jose Arredondo recorded the last two outs for his fourth save of the season.

May 13... Travelers starter Chris Saenz surrendered five runs on eight hits and three walks in 6 1/3 innings in the 5-4 loss to Springfield. At the plate, Sean Rodriguez had two RBIs and Adam Morrissey had two hits for Arkansas.

Springfield Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals)

15-19, third place, North Division

May 7... Mitchell Boggs tossed 6 1/3 solid innings to help Springfield defeat visiting Arkansas, 4-3. Boggs limited the Travelers to a run on four singles, with five strikeouts, but he also walked five batters. He retired 10 in a row between the first and fourth innings before Aaron Peel led off the fifth with a single. The Cardinals took the lead in the second, when Jarrett Hoffpauir clubbed a two-run dinger off Arkansas' starter Nick Green. Juan Encarnacion, rehabbing a wrist injury, smacked an RBI double in the fifth to give Springfield a 3-1 lead. Sean Danielson doubled in a run in the seventh. Danielson finished the game 2-for-4 and is currently batting .455 in 22 at-bats since his promotion to the Texas League.

May 8... Juan Encarnacion's second-inning RBI single gave the Cardinals a lead they would not relinquish as Springfield defeated Arkansas, 4-2. Encarnacion's base hit came two batters after Mike McCoy's run-scoring single tied the game at two. Joe Mather knocked in his league-leading 21st run with a first-inning single, while Mike Pagnozzi's RBI base knock in the third capped the game's scoring. Cory Rauschenberger picked up his second win in as many starts, allowing two runs on three hits over 6 2/3 innings. The 22-year-old retired 13 straight batters after allowing Peel's second-inning dinger. Michael Cooper followed with an inning of scoreless relief, while Jason Motte retired all four batters he faced to collect his first Texas League save.

May 9... Jamie Garcia was tagged for five runs on four hits and four walks three strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings as he took the 5-3 loss to Wichita. Jarrett Hoffpauir belted a two-run dinger, in the fifth for the Cards. It was his fourth if the season. Every Springfield starter had at least one hit, except rehabbing Juan Encarnacion. The St. Louis Cardinals outfielder, who is recovering from a right wrist injury, was 0-for-4 to drop his batting average to .154 in 13 games with Springfield.

May 10... Cardinals reliever Jose Garcia surrendered six runs, five earned, on eight hits and two walks over four innings in a 6-1 loss to Wichita. At the plate, Juan Lucena was 2-for-3 for Springfield.

May 11... Juan Richardson collected four hits and an RBI to lead Springfield to an 8-6 triumph over visiting Wichita. Richardson went 4-for-5 with an RBI single in a three-run third inning and a leadoff double that sparked a four-run fifth. Sean Danielson singled, doubled and drove in two runs, while Joe Mather was 3-for-3 and Colby Rasmus chipped in two hits and scored twice for the winners. Kevin Ool, who tossed five innings,allowed four runs, one earned, on two hits and four walks with four strikeouts. Jason Motte fanned one in a perfect eighth and Chris Perez picked up his eighth save, despite allowing a run on two hits and a walk in the ninth.

May 12... In the first game of the doubleheader Springfield scored two runs in the seventh on Sean Danielson's two-out double. The rally fell short when pinch-hitter Michael Ferris popped out to end the game, a 5-3 loss to Wichita, stranding Danielson at second. Starter Mitchell Boggs allowed five runs on 10 hits while striking out five and walking two in 5 1/3 innings for the Cardinals.

May 13... Juan Richardson drove in three runs as visiting Springfield topped Arkansas, 5-4. Richardson had an RBI single in the fifth inning and a two-run single in the eighth. Sean Danielson had two hits, including a two-run double in the second. Cardinals starter Cory Rauschenberger tossed six innings, allowing two unearned runs on two hits and five walks, striking out two, as he picked up his second win. Jason Motte recorded his second save with 2 1/3 scoreless frames. Michael Ferris belted a two-run homer, his first, in the second for the Cardinals, who dropped the second game, 5-3 to Wichita. Sean Danielson and Colby Rasmus each homered in the game. Losing pitcher Eric Haberer was charged with the loss after allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks in five innings.

Tulsa Drillers (Colorado Rockies)

19-17, first place, North Division

May 7... In a 4-2 loss to Wichita in the first game of the doubleheader, Tulsa starter Samuel Deduno yielded four runs, three earned, on four hits, while fanning six, in 5 2/3 innings. Jordan Czarniecki belted an RBI single in the fifth and Jon Herrera drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth for the Drillers. In the second game, Jon Herrera's bases-clearing triple in the seventh inning snapped a scoreless tie as visiting Tulsa blanked Wichita, 3-0, to split the doubleheader. With two outs in the final inning, Matt Macri singled, then Tomas Duenas and Corey Wimberly drew walks to load the bases. Herrera's triple was his second hit of the game and helped lift his batting average to .351. Darren Clarke got the win with a perfect sixth and Steven Register recorded his Texas League-leading 10th save with a flawless seventh, fanning two for the Drillers.

May 8... Alan Johnson hurled six scoreless innings in his Double-A debut and outdueled Luke Hochevar as Tulsa defeated Wichita, 7-3. Johnson earned the callup to the Drillers after going 2-2 with a 2.92 ERA in six starts with Class A Modesto. The 23-year-old right-hander scattered three hits and a walk, while striking out five. He allowed just one runner past second base. Jarrett Grube followed with two scoreless innings in relief, lowering his ERA to 0.49 over 18 1/3 innings pitched this season. Aaron Rifkin homered to lead off the second for the Drillers and Chris Frey had a run-scoring single in the frame. Jon Herrera laced an RBI double in the fifth, while Matt Miller and Tomas Duenas hit back-to-back run-scoring singles in the sixth to chase Hochevar. Steven Register entered in the ninth with runners on first and second and two outs and promptly retired Craig Brazell on one pitch to pick up his league-leading 11th save.

May 10... Greg Reynolds continued a string of impressive starts as Tulsa defeated Arkansas 7-3 in North Little Rock. Reynolds tossed five innings and allowed one unearned run on three hits and one walk while striking out five. The 21-year-old right-hander has gone at least five innings in each of his six starts, limiting opponents to two runs or fewer. Reynolds was ejected in the sixth inning after he hit Travelers Sean Rodriguez. Matt Macri went 3-for-5, knocking in a run and scoring once for the Drillers. Matt Miller added three hits and Joe Gaetti scored three runs. Christian Colonel went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base, while Chris Frey scored a pair of runs and stole his fifth base for Tulsa.

May 11... The Drillers fell to Arkansas 3-1 in the opener of the doubleheader. Starter Ryan Mattheus got the loss as he yielded three runs on five hits and three walks in six innings. Joe Gaetti went 2-for-3 with an RBI single in the sixth for the Drillers. In the second game, Matt Miller's sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning lifted Tulsa to a 5-4 victory over the Travs' and split the doubleheader. Jordan Czarniecki walked with one out in the third, took third on Matt Macri's single and scored the go-ahead run on Miller's fly ball to right field. Czarniecki smacked a three-run double in the first and Miller belted a leadoff homer in the fifth for the Drillers, who bounced back from a 3-1 loss in the opener. Juan Morillo tossed a perfect seventh for the win and Steven Register pitched around a double and a walk in the eighth, earning a his Minor League-leading 12th save.

May 12... Starter Oscar Rivera suffered a 5-3 loss to Arkansas in his 2007 Texas League debut. Christian Colonel and Aaron Rifkin each went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored for the Drillers.

May 13... Christian Colonel went 4-for-5 and drove in three runs to lead Tulsa past Wichita, 11-4. Colonel entered the game in a 2-for-11 slide, but broke through with singles in the second and fourth innings. He added an RBI single in the seventh and a two-run single in the eighth. Colonel's last four-hit game came on June 22, 2006 against Midland. Duke Sardinha went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and a double in his first game since April 30. Joe Gaetti also had a solo blast, while Matt Miller went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Drillers. Jarrett Grube tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings for his third win of the year. He struck out one and allowed a pair of hits while lowering his ERA to 0.41. Starter Samuel Deduno yielded four runs, three earned, on three hits and four walks, while striking out eight in 6 1/3 innings of work.

Wichita Wranglers (Kansas City Royals)

19-18, second place, North Division

May 7... Scott Elarton tossed 5 2/3 solid innings as Wichita edged visiting Tulsa, 4-2, in the first game of the doubleheader. Elarton allowed two runs on four hits, while walking five batters. He fanned three in his second rehab appearance for the Wranglers. The 31-year-old right-hander, who has a 54-56 Major League record, is expected to join Kansas City by the end of the week. Jarod Plummer tossed 1 1/3 perfect innings, striking out one, as he earned his fourth save. Chris Lubanski singled in a run in the third to give Wichita a 2-0 lead, while Craig Brazell hit an RBI single in the fifth and Irving Falu hit a run-scoring double in the sixth. In the second game of the doubleheader, Tulsa defeated Wichita, 3-0. Wranglers starter Daniel Christensen surrendered two runs on five hits, while striking out two and walking two in 6 2/3 innings. Adam Greenberg, Craig Brazell and Edward Lucas collected the only hits for Wichita.

May 8... Luke Hochevar struggled through a mediocre start en route to his third straight loss, a 7-3 decision to Tulsa. The University of Tennessee product surrendered six runs, four earned, on eight hits over 5 2/3 innings, as his ERA jumped to 4.86 in 37 innings pitched. Hochevar's six strikeouts increased his season total to a league-leading 43. The Wranglers avoided the shutout by scoring three runs in the ninth inning against Tulsa's Judd Songster. Jace Brewer doubled to lead off the frame and eventually scored on a throwing error, while Adam Greenberg and Geraldo Valentin had RBI singles.

May 9... Carlos Rosa pitched seven innings, earning his first Double-A win, as Wichita defeated visiting Springfield, 5-3. Rosa yielded three runs on 10 hits, while striking out two in his third appearance and second start for the Wranglers. The 22-year-old right-hander went 2-1, with a 0.39 ERA, in four starts for Class A Wilmington before being promoted. Gabe DeHoyos retired all six batters he faced, striking out three, to earn his first save. Ed Lucas belted a two-run homer in the fourth inning to give the Wranglers a 4-0 lead.

May 10... At Springfield, Reliever Dusty Hughes tossed a season-high seven innings as Wichita defeated the Cardianls, 6-1. Hughes replaced starter Michael Connolly, who threw three pitches of the game before a two-hour, 50-minute rain delay. He gave up an unearned run on five hits and two walks with two strikeouts. The teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader, but rain postponed the second game. Hughes, a 24-year-old left-hander, has given up only one earned run over his last three appearances, a span of 11 2/3 innings. Jeff Eure had two hits, three RBIs and one run scored for the Wranglers, while Chris Lubanski collected three hits and a run scored.

May 11... Jason Cromer suffered the loss to Springfield, 8-6, after getting roughed up for six runs on 10 hits and three walks in 4 1/3 innings. Chris Lubanski hit his fifth home run and Jeff Eure scored twice for the Wranglers.

May 12... Mike Stodolka's two-run double paced visiting Wichita to a 5-3 victory over Springfield in the first game of the doubleheader. The Wranglers jumped to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first. Stodolka drove in two of them when he lashed a one-out double down the right-field line, scoring Chris Lubanski and Edward Lucas. Lubanski went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored while Irving Falu singled, walked and stole two bases. Wichita starter Daniel Christensen went 6 2/3 innings, giving up three runs on six hits while striking out four and issuing two walks. Gabe DeHoyos recorded the final out of the game, getting his second save. In game two, Geraldo Valentin fell a homer shy of the cycle as he led Wichita to a 5-4 win over. And a doubleheader sweep at Hammons Stadium. Valentin led off the game with a double and scored later on an Edward Lucas RBI single to left field. He delivered a run-scoring triple in the second before coming home on Jace Brewer's single that gave the Wranglers a 3-0 lead. The 24-year-old right fielder sacrificed in the fourth and singled in his final at-bat in the sixth. Chris Lubanski led off the seventh with his sixth homer, while Lucas went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Reliever Jarod Plummer got the win, despite giving up two runs on two hits, both solo homers, in 2 2/3 innings. He struck out four as his ERA climbed from 0.64 to 1.62.

May 13... In relief, Wichita's Juan Cedeno suffered the 11-4 loss to Tulsa. As he gave up four runs on six hits in just one inning. He struck out one and did not walk a batter. Wranglers starter Luke Hochevar yielded four runs, eight hits and a walk in six innings. He fanned six, but served up two home runs. The Wranglers managed only five hits and scored all of their runs in the first. Ed Lucas blasted a two-run homer and Chris Lubanski and Onil Joseph each drove in a run.

SOUTH NOTES

Corpus Christi Hooks (Houston Astros)

11-26, fourth place, South Division

May 7... Jonny Ash's go-ahead three-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted Corpus Christi to an 8-5 win over San Antonio. In the eighth, Francisco Caraballo drew a bases-loaded walk to forge a 5-5 tie, before Ash smacked his eighth double of the year for the go ahead run. The win snapped a seven-game losing streak fot the Hooks. On the hill, rehabbing Astro Rick White allowed a run on three hits over two innings, Chance Douglass yielded four runs on four hits and two walks with a career-high 10 strikeouts over 5 2/3 frames. German Melendez retired one batter to pick up the win and Ryan Thompson tossed a scoreless ninth for his second save of the year.

May 8... Troy Patton tossed 7 2/3 strong innings as Corpus Christi blanked visiting San Antonio, 1-0. The 21-year-old Patton struck out six and walked one and lowered his ERA to 2.30. Kyle Middleton followed with 1 1/3 perfect innings, fanning three, to pick up his first save for Corpus Christi. The Hooks scored the game's only run with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. Ray Sadler doubled to left field and raced home on Drew Sutton's single to center.

May 10... Josh Miller pitched seven strong innings and Todd Self drove in three runs as Corpus Christi routed Frisco, 8-2 at Dr. Pepper Ballpark. Miller picked up his first win in six starts, allowing a run on five hits over seven innings, while striking out a season-high eight batters. Self's three RBIs increased his season-total to a Texas League-leading 23. The Louisiana native hit a run-scoring single in the third inning, and walked and scored in the sixth before blasting a two-run dinger as part of the Hooks' four-run ninth frame. Beau Torbert's two-run double preceded Self's ninth-inning homer, while Drew Sutton and Jeff Mackor each contributed an RBI single in the sixth.

May 11... Corpus Christi starter Ronnie Martinez was tagged with the 10-4 loss to Frisco. As he give up seven runs on five hits and four walks in 5 1/3 frames. On Offence, Beau Torbert went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and Noochie Varner and Drew Sutton each drove in two runs for the Hooks.

May 12... Kyle Middleton took the 5-4 loss to Frisco after yielding four runs, three earned, on one hit and two walks in 1 2/3 frames. Starter Chance Douglass threw six solid innings, allowing three hits, one earned run, while striking out four. Kevin Davidson doubled, walked twice and scored twice for the Hooks. Second baseman Jonny Ash and third baseman Drew Sutton both collected two hits in the game.

May 13... Hooks starter Troy Patton pitched well, but the Hooks fell short losing to San Antonio, 3-2. Patton gave up two runs on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts in six innings. Drew Sutton was 2-for-4 and connected for a solo shot in the third, his third of the season.

Frisco RoughRiders (Texas Rangers)

22-14, second place, South Division

May 7... Winning pitcher Eric Hurley tossed seven scoreless innings as host Frisco edged Midland, 5-4. Hurley gave up four hits and one walk while striking out four to become the second five-game winner in the Texas League. In his last 20 innings over three starts, he has given up two runs on 13 hits to lower his ERA to 1.47. Jesse Ingram recorded the final four outs for his seventh save, which is tied for third in the league. Travis Metcalf crushed a three-run blast in the first inning to open the scoring for the RoughRiders, while Steve Murphy and German Duran added solo shots.

May 9... A change of scenery is all Frisco's Doug Mathis needed to be successful. Beginning the year in Triple-A Oklahoma, the 23-year-old right-hander struggled from the outset, going 0-3 with a 10.66 ERA in three games, for the RedHawks. Mathis has settled in since joining the Double-A RoughRiders a few weeks ago. He limited the visiting Hooks to just one hit -- Francisco Caraballo's single with one out in the fifth, over seven scoreless innings, as Frisco edged Corpus Christi, 2-1. Brandon Puffer pitched a scoreless eighth in relief of Mathis, while Jesse Ingram closed out the game for his eighth save inspite of giving up a solo homer to Todd Self. The three RoughRider pitchers each gave up one hit each. For the 'Riders Anthony Webster went 2-for-3 with a homerun.

May 10... Paul Kometani took the loss to Corpus Christi, 8-2, yielding four runs, three earned, on five hits over 5 1/3 innings. Jorge Vasquez and Randy Williams combined on 2 2/3 scoreless innings before Matt Farnum allowed four runs in the ninth. German Duran's fifth-inning homer accounted for the first run of the game. The RoughRiders scored their second and final run in the eighth inning, as Travis Metcalf lofted a one-out sacrifice fly with the bases loaded.

May 11... Kevin Richardson's two-run single sparked a six-run, sixth inning as Frisco took s 10-4 decision from visiting Corpus Christi. Richardson, who stroked an RBI single during a four-run second, snapped a 4-4 tie with a two-out base hit to left field in the sixth. Steve Murphy followed with a two-run single, Anthony Webster scored on a wild pitch and Murphy came home on a throwing error by catcher Jeff Mackor to cap the scoring. Richardson and German Duran both went 2-for-3 with two runs scored for the RoughRiders. Frisco starter Armando Galarraga picked up the win, despite yielding four runs on 12 hits over six innings.

May 12... Casey Benjamin hit a game-tying three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning and Jake Blalock lifted a sacrifice fly in the 10th as Frisco took a dramatic 5-4 win from Corpus Christi. Blalock's fly ball to right field gave Frisco its fourth win in five games. Jesse Ingram fanned two in the 10th to pick up his first win of the season.

May 13... The RoughRiders pounded out 15 hits but committed two costly errors as they fell to Midland 9-8. Casey Benjamin and Travis Metcalf had three hits, an RBI and a run scored apiece, while Kevin Richardson belted a three-run homer, his sixth. Frisco reliever Matt Farnum took the loss after surrendering one run on two hits in one inning. In six innings, starter Eric Hurley gave up four runs, three earned, on three hits while striking out six and walking four.

Midland RockHounds (Oakland Athletics)

23-10, first place, South Division

May 7... The RockHounds lost 5-4 to Frisco. Starter Kazuhito Tadano took the loss after he surrendered four runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and one walk in six innings, taking the loss to Frisco 5-4.

May 9... Landon Powell, Myron Leslie and Brian Snyder hit consecutive doubles in a three-run seventh inning as Midland rallied past visiting San Antonio, 5-2. In the eighth, Jeff Baisley stroked a leadoff homer and Vasili Spanos doubled and came home on a wild pitch to cap the scoring. The rally made a winner of Michael Rogers, who pitched a scoreless seventh. Steven Sharpe tossed a 1-2-3 ninth for his fourth save of the season. Starter Mike Madsen threw six solid innings, giving up two runs while fanning nine Missions.

May 10... Vince Faison's eighth-inning triple drove in the eventual winning runs as Midland beat San Antonio, 6-4. The RockHounds led 4-2 when Faison laced a two-run triple to center field, scoring Myron Leslie and Brian Snyder. Faison went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and one run scored. Reliever Brad Ziegler got the win after pitching a perfect seventh. Steven Sharpe recorded the last two outs of the game, earning his fifth save of the year. Starter Andy Shipman struck out seven in six innings. He gave up two runs on five hits and two walks, but got no decision.

May 11... Reliever Dan Denham took the 6-1 loss against San Antonio, after allowing three runs on four hits and three walks in just two innings. Midland starter Luis Ramirez gave up a run on four hits and two walks, with five strikeouts in four innings. Landon Powell went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored for the RockHounds, who lost for only the second time in their last 10 games.

May 12... Midland rallied for eight runs over the final two innings taking an improbable 9-8 comeback win over visiting San Antonio. The RockHounds trailed, 8-1, after San Antonio starter Michael Ekstrom limited them to one run in 6 1/3 innings. But after the first two batters in the eighth inning grounded out, Midland exploded for five hits, including a home run by Vasili Spanos and run-scoring doubles by Myron Leslie and Brian Snyder all of which scored four runs. The 'Hounds continued the onslaught in the ninth. With two runs in, one out and the bases loaded, Snyder then hit a potential double play ball which could have ended the game, the winning runs came home when the relay throw to first went wild. Reliever Travis Foley struck out one in a perfect ninth to earn the win. Starter Ben Fritz allowed all eight runs on eight hits and three walks in 2 1/3 innings.

May 13... Midland stages another furious late-inning come back as they tied the game at Frisco 8-8 by scoring seven runs in the seventh inning, then another in the eighth to forge a 9-8 win. Midland's Brant Colamarino went 0-for-2 with a walk and a run, ending his 10-game hitting streak. RockHounds reliever Steven Bondurant allowed one hit in the eighth for the win, and Steven Sharpe worked around two hits in the ninth for his sixth save. Starter Kazuhito Tadano yielded six runs on eight hits, striking out eight and walking one in six innings.

San Antonio Missions (San Diego Padres)

20-17, third place, South Division

May 7... San Antonio was stopped by Corpus Christi as relief pitcher Jon Ellis was tagged with the 8-5 loss as he allowed four runs on a hit and three walks in just one-third of an inning. The Missions took the lead in the top of the eighth on Michael Johnson's two-run double. Nick Hundley and Sean Kazmar both homered for the Missions.

May 8...Despite pitching well, 24-year-old Sean Thompson lost 1-0 to Corpus Christi over seven innings. Thompson gave up just one run on five hits and lowered his ERA to 1.52 in his six starts of the season. San Antonio threatened in the eighth when Sean Kazmar singled, moved to second on Skip Adams' single and reached third on a groundout. Kyle Middleton came on and struck out Mike Sansoe to end the threat.

May 9... Arturo Lopez surrendered three runs on four hits in his lone inning for the Missions, taking the 5-2 loss to Midland. San Antonio starter Roger Deago allowed four hits and struck out six in four shutout frames. Dirk Hayhurst made his Missions debut after being called up from Class A Lake Elsinore, throwing two shutout innings allowing one base hit. Peter Ciofrone had two hits and scored a run for the Missions.

May 10... Paul Abraham took the loss in relief for the Missions as they fall to Midland, 6-4, as he allowed five runs on six hits and two walks in 1 1/3 innings. Tim Brown led off the ninth inning with a homer, his seventh, and Shawn Wooten doubled. Drew Macias, who went 2-for-5 with two RBIs, drove in Wooten with a single to right. Starter Cesar Ramos had another solid outing, allowing four hits, one unearned run and struck out three over six innings, lowering his ERA to 4.08.

May 11... Josh Greer pitched eight strong innings, earning his third straight win as visiting San Antonio beat Midland, 6-1. Greer yielded a run on five hits with seven strikeouts and no walks for his Texas League-leading sixth victory. The 23-year-old right-hander has won all but one of his seven starts in '07. Drew Macias went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and a double, while Nick Hundley delivered a two-run double during a three-run fifth helping the Missions snap a four-game losing streak.

May 13... Shawn Wooten singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning as host San Antonio edged Corpus Christi, 3-2. Missions reliever Dirk Hayhurst tossed two scoreless frames before Neil Jamison pitched around a walk and a single in the ninth, earning his 10th save of the year. Starter Sean Thompson yielded two runs, one earned, on three hits with four strikeouts and two walks in six innings. Chase Headley and Tim Brown each drove in a run for San Antonio.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Sean Danielson, Springfield

Sean Danielson, an undrafted outfielder out of Kansas State, went 11-for-26 in a seven-game stretch last week. The tear included five doubles, eight RBIs and five runs scored. In a three game span at home against Wichita, Danielson went 5-10, picking up four RBI's and hitting a double in each game. The switch hitting leadoff man had five multi-hit games during the week and is currently riding a five game hitting streak. Last year in Palm Springs, the 5'8" outfielder, hit .249 with 12 doubles, five triples and 22 stolen bases.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Doug Mathis, Frisco

Doug Mathis pitched a gem Wednesday at Dr Pepper Ballpark versus Corpus Christi to pick up Pitcher of the Week honors. The University of Missouri product allowed only one hit, while striking out four Hooks in seven solid innings in a 2-1 victory. It was the third consecutive Texas League win for the 23-year-old in Frisco, after starting in Oklahoma where he has struggled, going 0-3 with a 10.66 ERA in three games for the RedHawks. Currently Mathis is 3-1 with a 1.40 ERA in 25 2/3 innings pitched, while fanning 16 batters. In '06 Mathis spent the majority of the season with Bakersfield and appeared in 2 games at Frisco combining to go 10-7, 4.14 (74 ER/160.2 IP) with 119 strikeouts and only 52 walks over 28 starts. He ranked 3rd among all Rangers minor leaguers in wins and 7th with an ERA of 4.15.

He also has two hits in three plate appearances over that stretch. ... 2B Casey Smith ('03-'04, '06) had seven hits in his last 15 at-bats (.467) over a five-game stretch, collecting six RBIs in that span. ... OF Nathan Haynes ('01, '03, '06) batted .410 (16-for-39) with seven RBIs in his last nine games.

CORPUS CHRISTI HOOKS

OF Josh Anderson ('05-'06) has just two hits in 28 at-bats (.071) over his last eight games. ... After appearing in his first 10 games of the season out of the bullpen, LHP Mark McLemore ('05) made his second start of the season Tuesday against Tacoma, working four shutout innings and allowing only one hit.

OF Kevin Mahar ('06-'07) batted .409 (9-for-22) with six runs scored over his last five games. ... RHP Steven Rowe ('04-'07) allowed seven earned runs in his last two appearances, totaling 3 2/3 innings.

C Kurt Suzuki ('06) had a .366 average (15-for-41) and 11 RBIs over a 10-game stretch. ... 2B Kevin Melillo ('05-'06) hit .191 (9-for-47) over his last 10 games.

SAN ANTONIO MISSIONS

C Rob Johnson ('06) was batting .303 (10-for-33) in his last nine games. ... Jason Bourgeois ('06) was 4-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base in a game against Jacksonville. The IF/OF was hitting .296 and had eight steals in 10 attempts. Bourgeois, 25, played with San Antonio in the Texas League last season.

SPRINGFIELD CARDINALS

The Redbirds were in need of a new closer, and they might have found one in RHP Mark Worrell ('06). The 24-year-old Worrell earned his first save of the season Friday, pitching a perfect ninth inning against Salt Lake. Though it came in his 11th appearance of the season, Worrell has plenty of closing experience, having entered the season with 74 saves in three previous professional seasons. He had 27 for Double-A Springfield last season, and recorded a career-high 35 with Class-A Palm Beach in 2005.

THIS WEEK IN TEXAS LEAGUE HISTORY

May 14, 1968... Arkansas starter Clay Kirby tossed a 1-0, one-hit win over San Antonio. The 19-year-old Kirby gave up a line single in the third inning to Tom Simon, the only hit credited to the Missions in the game.

May 15, 1932... Euell "Chief" Moore of Galveston hurled a two-hitter, but lost 1-0 after Tulsa's Herb Kelly pounded a home run.

May 16, 1959... Corpus Christi raked Monterrey for 21 hits on the way to a 14-4 win. Infielder Jim Rice led the hit parade with a 5-for-6 effort, which included a double and a homer. Starter Dick Sovde, while allowing 11 hits and four runs, walked none and struck out 11 as he gained his fifth win of the season.

May 17, 1937... Tulsa starter Ed "Lefty" Carnett humbled Galveston 17-2, limiting the visitors to seven hits. To add insult to injury, Carnett also rapped a single, double and triple in the rout, leading all hitters with four RBI's.

May 18,1997... Texas League teams combined to score 93 runs in one evening, a new league recore for four nine-inning contests. The scores of the four games were: San Antonio over Tulsa 22-12; El Paso beating Jackson 12-10; Midland getting past Arkansas 12-10 and Wichita 10, Shreveport 7. There were 115 hits collected by the eight teams in the four games.

May 19, 1969... Bobby Grich led a 17-hit Dallas-Fort Worth attack with a perfect 5-for-5 evening in the Spurs 13-11 win over Albuquerque. Grich, who got his hits off of four different Dodgers pitchers, drove in what would prove to be the winning runs with a two-out single in the eighth inning.

May 20, 1966... Tom Hutton hit for the cycle, while completing a perfect 5-for-5 night, as he led Albuquerque to a 16-6 win over El Paso. Hutton used his five hits to drive in six runs in the one-sided win.
