Texas Defeats Tulsa 105-85 Friday Night

TULSA, Okla. - Center Byron Mullens was a force for the Tulsa 66ers (31-16) Friday night at home, scoring a season-high 31 points on 13-of-17 shooting while collecting 12 rebounds and a steal in a 105-85 defeat to the Texas Legends (21-25) inside the Tulsa Convention Center.

The double-double was Mullens' third of the season. Also scoring in double figures for Tulsa was Ryan Reid with 12 points. Forward Larry Owens led Tulsa with three steals.

"I thought Texas was really ready to go tonight and we have to take our hats off to them," 66ers head coach Nate Tibbetts said. "We are going to have nights like this, but I saw some positive things that we can learn from."

Despite the loss, the 66ers remain in first place in the Western Conference standings.

As a team, Tulsa recorded 19 assists, led by five dishes from guard Jerome Dyson. Defensively, the 66ers forced 14 Texas turnovers, including 10 thefts.

The Legends were led by reserve Ronald Allen with 19 points, while Antonio Daniels and Sean Williams each scored 17. Williams also tallied 10 boards on the night to earn a double-double.

The 66ers return to the court tomorrow night, March 26, for a home contest against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (30-16). The Vipers currently stand in second place in the Western Conference, trailing the 66ers by a half game. The contest is scheduled to tip at 7 p.m. inside the Tulsa Convention Center.

"Tomorrow we have to come back with the right mentality," Tibbetts said. "It's another opportunity to get better. I have a lot of faith in our guys that we will bounce back in a positive way."

Additional promotions include a celebration for Fit 66 participants and a pre-game sports clinic put on by Amazing Athletes. St. Jude's Children's Hospital will be the non-profit of the night.
